Assistant Small Engine Mechanic
We are a landscaping company seeking a dependable Assistant Mechanic to support our Head Mechanic with daily shop operations. Our repair shop is located at our landscaping yard.
The primary responsibility of this position is maintaining and repairing landscaping equipment, including commercial mowers, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and other small-engine equipment. The Assistant Mechanic will also help perform light maintenance and repairs on company trucks and trailers.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Mechanic with daily repairs and maintenance
- Diagnose and repair commercial landscaping equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance on mowers, blowers, trimmers, edgers, and other equipment
- Sharpen mower blades and replace belts, filters, spark plugs, and other parts
- Perform oil changes, brake replacements, battery replacements, and other light repairs on company trucks
- Inspect and maintain trailers
- Keep tools, parts, and the repair shop clean and organized
- Track completed repairs and report equipment problems
- Help ensure equipment is safe and ready for field crews
- Pick up parts or supplies when needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience repairing landscaping equipment or small engines is preferred
- Strong knowledge of commercial mowers and two-cycle and four-cycle engines
- Basic experience performing maintenance and light repairs on trucks
- Ability to identify mechanical problems and complete repairs correctly
- Must be dependable, organized, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions from the Head Mechanic
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record preferred
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work indoors and outdoor
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience repairing and maintaining commercial landscaping equipment, including mowers, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and other two-cycle and four-cycle equipment. They should also have basic experience performing light maintenance on trucks and trailers, such as oil changes, brake replacements, battery replacements, and tire repairs.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, safety-conscious, and able to follow directions from the Head Mechanic. The right person takes pride in their work, helps keep the shop clean, and understands the importance of having equipment repaired and ready for our landscaping crews each day.
Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
