Operating a veneer press requires a blend of woodworking expertise, material science knowledge, and mechanical aptitude while following all safety protocols.
A veneer press operator sets up and runs machinery that bonds thin sheets of wood veneer to base substrates like plywood or MDF. They apply precise pressure (and sometimes heat), use cold presses, hot hydraulic presses, or vacuum bags to create high-quality decorative panels for furniture and cabinetry.
Key Responsibilities
- Wear proper PPE at all times and take all safety precautions.
- Machine Operation: Prepare, adjust, and operate hydraulic hot/cold presses or vacuum presses. Must have experience Operating a Press.
- High-Quality Assurance: Monitor veneers for proper glue spread, grain alignment, and signs of bubbling or loose veneer before and after pressing.
- Material Prep: Lay up veneer sheets, apply adhesives, and position the materials evenly to prevent overlap or gaps. Move material to and from the press. Places scrap materials into proper container.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on glue spreaders, pumps, and platens. Performs 5S and housekeeping duties.
Requirements
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Ideally, 2 to 3 years of woodworking or machine operation is preferred for our high-quality work.
- Physical Demands: Requires lifting up to 75 pounds and working in our fast-paced, sometimes noisy, shop environment.
SKILLS:
- Attention to detail,
- Accuracy with a tape measure 1/32"
- Basic math for measurements,
- Ability to identify flaws in material, dimensional, wood grain, color, and other quality issues.
- Understanding wood movement and grain matching,
- Selecting the correct adhesive,
- Mastering pressure and temperature calibration,
- Operating machine controls,
- Troubleshooting defects like bubbling or cracking
- Should have exemplarily attendance record
- Should be able to communicate in the English language

- Wage: between $20 to $29 per hour, depending on your experience.
