Job Summary
The Toddler Lead Teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging Montessori learning environment for children ages 18 months to 3 years. This position is responsible for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate instruction, fostering independence and social-emotional growth, maintaining a well-prepared classroom, and partnering with families to support each child's development. The Toddler Lead Teacher works collaboratively with school staff while upholding the mission, values, and Montessori philosophy of Montessori Academy in the Oaks.
Responsibilities
- Classroom Instruction
- Plan and implement daily Montessori lessons and activities appropriate for toddlers.
Student Supervision
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every child.
- Maintain appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
- Supervise indoor and outdoor learning activities.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and accidents.
Health and Safety
- Follow all MAITO health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
- Conduct daily health observations.
- Complete accident and incident reports promptly.
- Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and required certifications.
- Comply with all mandatory reporting laws regarding suspected abuse or neglect.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment.
- Prepare classroom materials and learning activities.
- Monitor classroom supplies and request replacements as needed.
- Support children's independence during meals, toileting, rest time, and transitions.
- Assist with classroom cleaning and sanitization throughout the day.
Parent Communication
- Build positive and professional relationships with families.
- Communicate regularly regarding children's development and classroom activities.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families.
- Refer significant parent concerns to the Administrator when appropriate.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend all required staff meetings and professional development.
- Participate in school events, family nights, Open House, conferences, and field trips.
- Follow all Montessori Academy in the Oaks policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
- Work collaboratively with assistants, administration, and fellow teachers.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
- Prepare and maintain an organized, engaging, and child-centered Montessori classroom.
- Foster independence, self-care, language development, and practical life skills.
- Guide children using positive discipline and respectful Montessori practices.
- Observe, assess, and document each child's developmental progress.
- Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred).

- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with young children throughout the day.
- Successful completion of required criminal background checks.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori Infant/Toddler Credential (AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited program).
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Previous Montessori classroom experience.
- Experience in an accredited preschool or licensed childcare program.
- Knowledge of Montessori philosophy and child-led learning.
- Experience working with children ages 18 months to 3 years in an early childhood setting.
