Job Summary
The Shift Lead provides day-to-day leadership by directing shift operations, coaching team members, and ensuring exceptional guest experiences. Shift Leads serve as the manager-on-duty during assigned shifts by supporting operational excellence, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring company policies are consistently followed.
Daily Responsibilities and Tasks
- Perform all Barista responsibilities.
- Lead pre-shift huddles and communicate daily priorities.
- Direct workflow and delegate responsibilities throughout the shift.
- Coach and support Baristas in real time.
- Ensure beverage quality, food quality, cleanliness, and hospitality standards.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally.
- Complete opening and closing manager procedures.
- Monitor product levels and communicate inventory needs.
- Ensure food safety and health standards are maintained.
- Escalate employee or operational concerns to management.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum 17 years of age.
- Manual espresso machine knowledge.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Strong communication and coaching skills.
- Excellent conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to make sound decisions during busy operations.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work a minimum of three shifts per week, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Required Education, Certification, or Experience
- Food Manager Certification (within 30 days of promotion or hire).
- Previous Barista experience required.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Manual espresso machine experience required.
Physical Requirements and Schedule
- Ability to stand and walk continuously for up to 8 hours.
- Frequently bend, reach, kneel, twist, and lift.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate espresso machines, grinders, ovens, POS systems, and other cafe equipment.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, including hot equipment and refrigerated storage.
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate verbal and written instructions in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business needs require. Must be able to work a minimum of three shifts per week.
- Regular, reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
Compensation and Benefits
- $12.50–$17.50 per hour + average hourly tips of $4–$6, based on home shop volume and experience
