The Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their children for success in school and beyond. The program empowers parents as their child’s first teacher through a structured, home-based curriculum delivered by trained home visitors. Position Summary: The HIPPY Home Visitor is responsible for delivering the HIPPY curriculum to enrolled families in their homes or designated community locations. This role involves modeling instructional activities for parents of 3- or 4-year-old children, providing encouragement and support, and maintaining accurate records of home visits. Home Visitors build trusted relationships that support early learning and family engagement. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver HIPPY curriculum and materials and conduct weekly home visits to assigned families providing support.
- Demonstrate activities to parents so they can effectively teach their children at home.
- Maintain consistent communication with families and respond to their needs with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and regularly scheduled supervision sessions.
- Participate in monthly group meetings and support family engagement events.
- Track attendance, progress, and completion of home visits using program forms or tools, and document risk factors, screenings, visits, resources, and group engagements in the SC First Steps Data Collection System.
- Protect the confidentiality of family information and maintain compliance with program and agency policies.
- Serve as a positive role model for families, promoting literacy, school readiness, and parent involvement.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; some college coursework in early childhood education, education, or social services is preferred.
- Experience working with children or families in community settings is strongly desired.
- Ability to work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance required.
- Must complete HIPPY training and commit to implementing the curriculum with fidelity.
- Reside in or have strong ties to the community being served is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends.
- Travel within assigned service area to conduct home visits.
- Frequent sitting, driving, and light lifting of curriculum materials (up to 25 lbs.).
