Registered Nurse (RN)
PM SHIFT - 2:00-10:30 p.m full time or part time
Primary Function:
Under the direction of the DON, and in compliance with state statutes and regulations governing the practice of nursing, the RN provides direct, hands-on, personal, high quality nursing care in accordance with established policies and practices of Park View Community Campus. The RN also provides supervision of subordinate nursing staff by serving as “charge nurse” while on duty, as designated by the DON.
Essential Functions:
- Perform direct resident care in accordance with nursing standards of care utilizing the principles of nursing and basic physical assessment skills in the development, documentation, and implementation of individualized, interdisciplinary care plans to ensure the needs of the residents are met.
- Assess residents, initiate physician orders, administer medication, and complete procedures and treatments in accordance with resident needs, physician orders, and procedures.
- Accurately record resident care and observations on their medical record.
- Work cooperatively and respectfully with team members to promote a positive work environment. Work with residents, residents’ families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant “home” environment.
- Update 24 hour report board, provide follow-up supervision, assist/consult with nursing staff, inform team members of the care needs of the residents, conduct change-of-shift reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of department, resident, employee information, communication and documentation as well as compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Inform Resident Care Coordinator, DON, resident’s Guardian and resident’s Physician of any change in residents’ condition in a timely manner; initiate follow-up to promote resident safety/care; and immediately report any suspicion/allegation of resident abuse/neglect to the DON and Nursing Home Administrator (NHA).
- Is responsible to handle admissions, transfers and discharge of residents; must complete all documentation; and assist with the care of the residents during such processes.
- Encourage, empower, and support residents whenever possible to maintain or regain their independence, accommodating their individual choices, assisting them in directing their own daily lives, and in helping residents maintain their own personal belongings according to their wishes.
- Take steps to promote and maintain a clean and safe work environment and ensure that malfunctioning equipment is immediately removed from service and maintenance notified for repair.
- Observe, adhere to, and promote emergency/safety protocols and measure related to hazardous waste, chemical use, fire, weather, internal disasters, wandering residents, community disasters, and other safety matters.
- Attend and participate in staff development programs and other education programs to increase personal knowledge and abilities, promote professional growth and development, and maintain certificates/license(s).
- Assist in orientation of new employees and pool personnel, as designated.
Education and Other Requirements:
- Must hold a current Registered Nurse License from the state of Wisconsin. Must maintain the license in good standing throughout the course of employment with Park View Community Campus.
- Must be certified in basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or complete certification within required time frame after employment; and once certification is achieved it must be maintained throughout the course of employment with Park View Community Campus.
- Must have a genuine interest in geriatric nursing, possess qualities of leadership, judgment and dependability.
- Successful completion of pre-employment local and criminal records check.
