Position: Underwriter
Department: Production
Education/Experience
- Bachelors, Associate Degree or Equivalent in Business Administration.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Underwriting area.
- Specialized Course in Underwriting and Risk Analysis.
Requirements
- Fully Bilingual. (written and oral)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Demonstrates proficiency in automated underwriting systems (DU,
LP/GUS)
- Knowledge of computer programs used in the banking industry.
- Knowledge of the policies and regulations in the banking industry.
- Knowledge with FHA / VA, Rural Development and FNMA / FHLMC.
- Knowledge of current private mortgage and investment insurance guidelines.
- Ability to work multiple tasks at the same time.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the cases to determine their compliance with the guidelines of the company, investors, FHA, VA and Rural
Development, Fannie Mae, etc.
- Evaluate the case files in their entirety as well as the corresponding collateral for residential mortgage loans, ensuring that the investment represents a minimum risk.
- Evaluate loan documents are to insure accuracy and completeness.
- Record loan denials and specific basis for declining application.
- Assists in the preparation of Audit/ Investors responses and/or rebuttal.
- Verify that all calculations are correct.
- Communicate the decisions or changes made in each case to the process area or the corresponding person.
- Maintain good daily production and handle cases within the time limit.
- Keep the Origination, Process and Closing staff informed about changes in regulations and regulations of FHA, VA,
Conventional, Rural Development loans, etc.
- Review the file after the closing of the case, before sending it to the insurance and guarantee, making sure that everything is in order or in compliance.
