Youth Development Professional (YDP)
Position Summary
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising high-quality youth development programs and activities that support the mission and goals of the Prince George’s County Boys & Girls Club (PGCBGC).
Under the supervision of the Club Manager, the YDP creates a safe, positive and engaging environment where youth feel supported, empowered and encouraged to achieve success in the core areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, character development and citizenship.
The YDP serves as a positive role model for youth members while helping maintain daily Club operations, program quality, member supervision and facility safety.
Evening, weekend and special event availability may occasionally be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Youth Development & Member Engagement
- Create and maintain a safe, positive and inclusive environment that promotes youth development and member engagement.
- Build supportive, professional and respectful relationships with youth members and families.
- Promote participation and engagement in Club programs, activities and events for youth, preteens and teens.
- Provide appropriate guidance, mentorship and behavioral support to members in accordance with PGCBGC policies and procedures.
- Facilitate quality programs and activities that promote confidence, teamwork, leadership, healthy decision-making and individual growth.
- Foster an environment that promotes belonging, teamwork, respect and positive peer interaction.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, accountability and appropriate conduct at all times.
Program Implementation & Administration
- Implement and supervise daily programs, services and activities for assigned program areas.
- Prepare program materials and activity spaces prior to member participation.
- Track attendance, participation and engagement levels for assigned programs and activities.
- Document member progress, incidents and program outcomes as required.
- Assist with implementation of age-appropriate curricula and enrichment activities that align with organizational goals and member interests.
- Regularly gather feedback from members regarding program interests and participation experiences.
- Support special events, field trips, athletic activities and community initiatives as assigned.
Youth Protection & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with PGCBGC youth protection policies and all applicable safety procedures.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-youth supervision ratios and ensure members are properly supervised at all times.
- Understand and follow all PGCBGC policies related to member conduct, staff conduct, child abuse prevention, transportation, emergency procedures, incident reporting and facility safety.
- Immediately report all accidents, incidents, injuries, behavioral concerns or suspected policy violations to Club leadership.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Help maintain a clean, organized and physically safe Club environment.
Teamwork & Professional Development
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, organizational training and professional development activities.
- Work collaboratively with Club staff, volunteers and leadership to support overall Club operations and program success.
- Maintain professionalism and reliability in attendance, communication and job performance.
- Support Club-wide initiatives and operational needs as directed by the Club Manager.
Additional Responsibilities
- Understand and effectively communicate the mission and value of PGCBGC programs and services.
- Serve as an advocate for youth development and positive community engagement.
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, organization and appearance of Club facilities and program areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience working with children or youth programs preferred.
- Knowledge of youth development principles and practices is preferred.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and digital communication tools preferred.
- Ability to motivate youth, manage behavior and maintain a structured environment.
- Ability to organize and supervise youth safely and effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families and community members.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.
- Valid State Driver’s License preferred.

Compensation:
Hourly salary of $15 to $18 per hour.
