OneSparQ is looking for a Lead Substation Engineer for a Manufacturing company in Canton, OH.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering, reliability, and modernization of medium-voltage power distribution systems, serving as the technical authority for substations, protection systems, power quality, and plant-wide electrical infrastructure
- Develop and execute long-term asset management strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs, capital planning, equipment standards, and modernization initiatives to maximize system reliability
- Manage medium-voltage capital projects from concept through commissioning, overseeing engineering design, budgets up to $5M, contractor performance, equipment procurement, and project execution
- Direct electrical protection, safety, and compliance efforts by leading relay coordination, arc flash studies, outage planning, and adherence to NFPA, IEEE, and NETA standards
- Collaborate with utilities, operations, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot complex electrical issues, improve system performance, support SCADA and power quality initiatives, and ensure safe, reliable plant operations
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in Power Distribution design and engineering
- Experience with protection and controls
- Understanding how to work with 5kv and higher, up to 138kv
- Must have hands-on experience with relay setup, development, configuration, testing, and commissioning
Additional Skills:
- Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) protective relays
