We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant / Assistant Controller to join our San Diego-based team. This role is instrumental in supporting our financial operations across a diverse portfolio of real estate assets, operating businesses, and project entities.
Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant / Assistant Controller will report directly to the Executive Team and Controller. This role is designed for a motivated, detail-oriented professional with strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to work across multiple entities and industries. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent organizational skills and the confidence to support a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary environment.
This position requires regular in-office attendance to collaborate effectively with team members and maintain timely financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage financial statements and reports across multiple entities and project types.
- Assist Controller with month end billing.
- Perform detailed financial analysis and prepare accurate account reconciliations.
- Maintain general ledgers and ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare budgets and forecasts in coordination with project managers and leadership.
- Process vendor payments and accounts payable/receivable management.
- Collaborate closely with DWC project managers and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accounting compliance and accurate project-based reporting.
- Support the Controller and executive team in financial strategy and oversight.
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong accounting background, ideally with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Adept at interpreting financial data, identifying discrepancies, and implementing process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Proven ability to manage complex reconciliations, analyze variances, and support sound financial decision-making.
- Experience in public accounting or in a multi-entity finance role.
- Exposure to various industries, including real estate, retail, manufacturing, or operating businesses.
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Certifications & Tools
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Yardi property management software – a plus.
- Background in forensic accounting, bankruptcy, or restructuring – a bonus.

Pay: $96,284.88 - $115,955.99 per year
