Industrial Cleaning Technician – Paper Mill Services
Position Summary
The Industrial Cleaning Technician performs a variety of industrial cleaning, maintenance, and support services at paper mill facilities. This role is responsible for assisting with planned shutdowns, routine maintenance activities, equipment cleaning, material handling, and environmental services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service. The technician works closely with Supervisors, Project Managers, Operators, and Customer personnel to support mill operations and maintenance projects.
Essential Functions
- Perform industrial cleaning services at paper mill sites, including cleanup of process areas, pits, tanks, conveyors, boilers, digesters, evaporators, and other production equipment.
- Utilize high-pressure water blasting, vacuum trucks, hydro-excavation equipment, air movers, and specialized cleaning equipment to remove debris, fiber buildup, sludge, and process materials.
- Assist with outage, turnaround, and shutdown projects, including equipment preparation, cleaning, inspection support, and restoration activities.
- Safely enter and work in confined spaces, including tanks, maintenance holes, vessels, and other restricted-access areas when properly trained and authorized.
- Perform physical labor associated with industrial cleaning, material handling, waste collection, decontamination, sweeping, shoveling, washing, and general housekeeping.
- Load, unload, move, and stage equipment, tools, hoses, vacuum lines, and materials as needed.
- Assist in the setup, operation, teardown, and decontamination of equipment and work areas.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, site-specific safety requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space entry requirements, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Wear and properly maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, FR clothing, respirators, and chemical-resistant gear.
- Perform daily inspections of equipment and report maintenance concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Complete daily paperwork, timesheets, safety documentation, permits, inspection forms, and work reports accurately and timely.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Respond to emergency or urgent cleaning needs as required by customer operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily at paper mills, industrial manufacturing facilities, and customer job sites.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, heat, cold, humidity, noise, and industrial environments.
- Ability to work at elevations, in confined spaces, and around industrial machinery.
- Must be willing to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and outage/shutdown schedules.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of industrial cleaning, maintenance, manufacturing, construction, or related experience preferred.
- Experience in paper mills, industrial plants, refineries, power generation, or heavy industrial environments is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, alcohol testing, and background screening.
- Ability to pass company safety training and site-specific customer requirements.
- OSHA 10, OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER, Confined Space Entry, and Lockout/Tagout training preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety, attendance, and quality workmanship.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with high-pressure water blasting equipment.
- Experience operating vacuum trucks, hydro-excavators, or industrial cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of confined space entry and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Experience supporting paper mill outages, shutdowns, or maintenance projects.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand and power tools.

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
