Family Assistant Needed, Broomall PA Area
Position: Family Assistant (5-7 hours/day, flexible scheduling)
Rate: $20-25/hour (based on experience and responsibilities)
Location: Broomall, PA (Delaware County)
Start Date: Immediate
About the Role
We're seeking a reliable, compassionate family assistant to support our household. This is a meaningful role in a home where neurodiversity is part of our daily life, and we need someone who genuinely gets that.
Your Responsibilities
- Meal prep and light cooking: Breakfast, lunch, and snacks for three kids. Dietary needs are gluten-free and dairy-free (we provide all groceries and meal guidance).
- Light housekeeping: Kitchen, bathrooms, living spaces. We're realistic about what "light" means and don't expect perfection.
- Laundry support: Washing, drying, folding, and organizing for the household.
- Childcare and supervision: Engaging activities, homework support, and direct care for younger children.
- School/activity transportation: Reliable pickup and drop-off for school, afterschool programs, and occasional activities. Your vehicle will be essential.
- Flexibility and patience: Navigating routines that work for a neurodivergent household, staying calm during unexpected changes, and responding thoughtfully to different communication and sensory needs.
Who We're Looking For
Must-haves:
- Reliable working vehicle in good condition
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record
- Genuine interest in supporting children on the autism spectrum
- Dependability and follow-through
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- References from previous childcare/household work
A plus:
- Personal or professional experience with autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neurodivergent individuals
- Experience recognizing and supporting sensory sensitivities
- Flexibility with dietary restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free cooking)
- Experience with young children (ages 2-12)
- Calm presence and creative problem-solving when routines shift
What You Should Know About Our Family
We have three children. Our younger two are on the autism spectrum. That means our household operates differently than some others, and we value people who see that as a feature, not a bug. We're looking for someone who:
- Understands that our kids may need more time to transition between activities
- Won't take things personally if communication looks different (our 3-year-old is pre-verbal)
- Can adjust plans quickly without stress when something isn't working
- Recognizes that sensory sensitivities are real and often drive behavior
- Views your role as supporting the whole family, including honoring our values around inclusion and neurodiversity
Hours and Schedule
5-7 hours per day, year-round ongoing position. Scheduling is flexible based on your availability and our needs. We can work together to establish a consistent routine that works for both of us during the interview.
Questions?
We're an open-book family. If you have questions about our kids' needs, routines, dietary requirements, or what this role really looks like day-to-day, ask during the interview. We want the right fit as much as you do.
