Duties
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures by preparing and passing dental instruments and materials efficiently.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced dental imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and dental X-ray machines, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for clinical confidentiality.
- Perform dental instrument processing including sterilization procedures and infection prevention management to uphold the highest standards of aseptic technique.
- Monitor vital signs and medical documentation for patients undergoing treatments such as oral surgery or pediatric dentistry procedures.
- Support patient management by scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and providing excellent patient care with a focus on comfort and education.
- Maintain dental equipment functionality, including dental sterilization procedures, infection control protocols, and proper handling of dental instruments.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry practices.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Softdent; experience with patient management software is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and clinical procedures including dental x-ray techniques and oral surgery support.
- Familiarity with infection prevention policies, dental sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques in pediatric dentistry or other specialties like endodontics or prosthodontics.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with the dental team—including dental receptionists—and provide compassionate patient care.
- Certification in X-ray safety and proficiency in medical coding or documentation is preferred; ongoing training in medical terminology is advantageous.
