Casa di Mir Montessori School, established in 1989, provides authentic Montessori education to students Pre-K to grade 8. Casa di Mir has a dynamic Middle School program with established community partnerships, including farm and travel components and takes advantage of the tremendous diversity of the Bay Area. A well designed adolescent program with many opportunities for growth, the Casa di Mir Middle School seeks a committed and multi-talented teacher with a Math focus to begin summer 2019.
Position Summary:
The middle school teacher creates an environment that is conducive to the growth and development of adolescents (grades 7-8) in the realization of their fullest potential. There is room for creativity in bridging disciplines and branching out into the areas of micro-economy activities and technology. The math/science middle school teacher must have the ability to manage a broad range of math/science skill levels, have a well spring of energy, a good sense of humor, and be able to communicate effectively and set clear boundaries.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
·Establish and maintain an enriching and challenging environment based on Montessori principles in which students work collaboratively with each other, the staff and the wider community.
·Provide a flexible, responsive environment that provides real life experiences and work practices to bring the curriculum to life.
·Create engaging math and science curriculum and impart lessons to individuals and groups.
·Modify teaching plans according to the varying needs of students.
·Assist students in understanding mathematical and scientific concepts and applying them in actuality.
·Demonstrate responsibility for student safety and well-being at all times.
·Provide an environment that fosters respect and values differences.
·Teach in a Socratic, inquiry based style.
·Keep detailed and accurate records of each student’s academic progress.
·Maintain professional and positive communication with parents.
· Research and develop relationships with community resources to enhance place-based instruction.
Qualifications
- Montessori Credential or interest in progressive pedagogy
- Potential support for education certification, as needed.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching experience- Middle School/High School
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Walk and stand routinely. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Sensory Requirements: this job requires visual and auditory perception and the ability to communicate orally.
- Able to chaperone highly active adventure trips.
