Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated, dependable, and bilingual English/Spanish OTR Driver Recruiter / Driver Relations Coordinator to join our team.
This position will be responsible for recruiting qualified OTR truck drivers, screening applicants, verifying driver qualifications, and maintaining regular communication with our current drivers. The ideal candidate will have experience in the trucking industry and a strong understanding of DOT requirements, driver qualification requirements, and commercial driver insurance requirements.
This is a hands-on position that requires someone who is comfortable making frequent phone calls, building relationships with drivers, following up consistently, and working closely with our Safety, Operations, and insurance partners.
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Saturday, 8:00 AM–1:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Driver Recruiting & Hiring
- Recruit qualified OTR drivers through phone calls, job boards, referrals, social media, and other recruiting sources.
Current Driver Relations & Retention
- Maintain regular communication with current OTR drivers, including daily check-ins, to ensure everything is going well.
- Communicate with drivers in both English and Spanish as needed.
- Build positive working relationships with drivers and serve as a point of contact for questions and concerns.
- Check in with drivers regarding loads, schedules, equipment, and general concerns while they are on the road.
- Identify driver issues and communicate them to the appropriate department or manager.
- Follow up on driver concerns to ensure they are addressed in a timely manner.
- Help maintain strong driver relationships and support driver retention.
Safety & Operations Support
- Assist the Safety Department with daily safety and compliance tasks.
- Assist with reviewing trip packs, BOLs, PODs, DVIRs, logs, and other transportation documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with identifying missing, incomplete, or incorrect documentation and follow up with drivers or the appropriate department.
- Assist with monitoring driver compliance with company policies and applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements.
- Assist Operations and Safety with administrative tasks and other duties as needed.
- Help maintain accurate driver and compliance records.
- Escalate safety, compliance, or operational concerns to management when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish — REQUIRED.
- Previous experience in OTR driver recruiting, transportation, trucking, safety, dispatch, driver relations, or a related position.
- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and commercial motor carrier requirements.
- Experience reviewing driver qualifications and compliance documentation.
- Ability to review and understand MVRs, PSP reports, DAC reports, and driver qualification files.
- Familiarity with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Experience working with commercial trucking insurance requirements is strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with an insurance provider regarding driver eligibility and insurability.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or missing information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable making frequent outbound phone calls.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work independently while also coordinating with multiple departments.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn company software and transportation systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling driver records and personal information.
- Make outbound calls to prospective drivers and follow up consistently throughout the recruiting process.
- Maintain an active pipeline of qualified driver candidates.
- Screen prospective drivers to determine whether they meet company, DOT, safety, and insurance requirements.
- Review and verify driver qualification information and required documentation.
- Review MVRs (Motor Vehicle Records), PSP reports, DAC reports, and other applicable driver history and background information.
- Assist with reviewing driver qualification files and identifying missing or incomplete documentation.
- Verify required information through the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and assist with ensuring applicable pre-employment requirements are completed.
- Work closely with the Safety Department to determine whether prospective drivers meet company and DOT/FMCSA requirements.
- Work with the company's insurance provider to verify that prospective drivers are insurable and approved for coverage prior to hiring.
- Communicate with applicants regarding missing documentation, qualifications, or other requirements.
- Coordinate the driver approval process with Safety, Operations, Management, and the insurance company.
