Position Overview
- The Part-Time AMFT Assessment & Group Therapist will support the admissions and clinical team.
- The main focus of this role is helping evaluate whether prospective clients are appropriate for PHP / IOP services.
- This person will help with screening, assessment support, documentation, and care coordination before and during admission.
- This role may also support paid pre-enrollment screening and assessment-related services.
- The therapist may also facilitate a few clinical groups per week as needed.
- This is not intended to be a full caseload role at first.
- The goal is to have a flexible part-time therapist who can help with assessments and provide group coverage as the program grows.
- The role will work under the direction of the Program Manager / Clinical Director.
Responsibilities
- Assist with pre-admission screenings for prospective clients
- Help assess whether clients may be appropriate for PHP / IOP level of care
- Gather clinical history, presenting concerns, risk factors, and treatment needs
- Support assessment-related documentation
- Help document medical necessity and clinical appropriateness
- Support paid pre-enrollment screening and assessment services as appropriate
- Help with requested status / pre-enrollment screening workflows when applicable
- Coordinate with the Program Manager / Clinical Director on clinical fit and admission recommendations
- Escalate safety concerns, risk concerns, or higher-level-of-care needs
- Help identify when a prospective client may need a different level of care
- Support warm handoffs and referral coordination when a client is not appropriate for the program
- Assist with intake flow, client engagement, and follow-up
- Facilitate a few PHP / IOP therapy groups per week as needed
- Provide group coverage when additional clinical support is needed
- Complete documentation for screenings, assessments, groups, and care coordination
- Document billable and non-billable client contacts as required
- Work closely with admissions, clinical leadership, and program staff
- Maintain a trauma-informed, professional, and client-centered approach
- Follow HIPAA, Medi-Cal, County, and program documentation requirements
- Practice within AMFT scope of practice and under supervision
- Participate in case consultation as needed
- Support the team during census growth
- Help build out assessment workflows and screening processes
Qualifications
- Current California AMFT registration in good standing required
- ACSW or APCC candidates may also be considered
- Experience with any of the following preferred:
- Assessments
- Intake

- Crisis work

- Community mental health
- PHP / IOP
- Substance use treatment
- Co-occurring disorders
- Medi-Cal documentation
- Comfortable speaking with prospective clients and families

- Comfortable facilitating groups or willing to learn
- Reliable, responsive, and organized
- Able to work onsite in La Mesa, CA

Supervision
- This position works under the supervision of the Program Manager / Clinical Director.
- Assessment work, documentation, and clinical recommendations will be reviewed according to program requirements and scope of practice.
- Associate-level clinicians will be expected to practice within their registration status and scope.
- Clinical supervision may be available depending on schedule, fit, and program needs.
