The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily execution of COVA Tree's operations, with a strong emphasis on field operations, scheduling, crew productivity, and coordination between the field and office.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who is comfortable moving between the office and the field. The Director of Operations will work closely with department leaders and crews to ensure jobs are properly scheduled, staffed, equipped, and completed efficiently while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and customer service.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader and strong problem-solver who takes ownership, follows through, holds others accountable, and is comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced service environment.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Scheduling
- Oversee daily field operations and ensure crews are prepared for successful execution of scheduled work
- Manage and oversee the company schedule, balancing crew availability, job requirements, equipment needs, geography, and production goals
- Coordinate with department leaders to ensure appropriate staffing and resources are assigned to each job
- Review upcoming work and proactively identify scheduling, staffing, equipment, or logistical issues
- Monitor jobs throughout the day and make adjustments when schedules, staffing, equipment, weather, or job conditions change
- Maintain strong communication between field crews, department leaders, sales, scheduling, and office staff
- Ensure crews have the information, equipment, materials, and resources needed to complete scheduled work
- Monitor job progress, completion rates, labor utilization, and production efficiency
- Spend time in the field observing operations, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting department leaders and crews
- Resolve field-related operational issues quickly and effectively
Leadership & Accountability
- Support and manage department leaders while establishing clear expectations and accountability
- Maintain consistent communication with department leaders regarding priorities, challenges, staffing, and performance
- Ensure commitments, assigned tasks, and operational issues are followed through to completion
- Lead regular operational and leadership meetings with clear action items and accountability
- Promote strong communication and collaboration between departments
- Develop employees and leaders through coaching, feedback, and clear performance expectations
- Reinforce company policies, procedures, safety expectations, and operational standards
Operational Systems & Performance
- Develop, improve, and maintain operational systems, workflows, and processes
- Identify inefficiencies and implement practical solutions that improve productivity and execution
- Track and analyze KPIs, production goals, labor efficiency, job performance, and other operational metrics
- Monitor job costing and identify areas where production or labor performance is falling outside expectations
- Ensure operational systems and company software are being used consistently and effectively
- Establish processes that improve visibility, accountability, and consistency throughout the organization
Planning & Company Operations
- Work closely with company leadership on staffing, budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
- Help determine staffing and equipment needs based on workload and company growth
- Coordinate with sales and scheduling to ensure sold work can be completed efficiently and within appropriate timelines
- Assist with fleet, equipment, inventory, and facility-related operational needs
- Support customer service and help resolve escalated operational or scheduling concerns when necessary
- Assist leadership with long-term planning, organizational structure, and scalable processes
- Take ownership of operational challenges and drive issues through resolution
Qualifications
- Previous experience in operations management, field operations, construction management, service operations, or a similar leadership role
- Demonstrated experience managing employees, crews, schedules, and multiple simultaneous priorities
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set expectations and hold others accountable
- Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail
- Self-starter who takes initiative and does not require constant direction
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments
- Ability to adapt quickly when schedules or operational priorities change
- Experience tracking operational KPIs, labor efficiency, or production performance preferred
- Familiarity with scheduling, CRM, or field-service management software preferred
Schedule & Work Environment
This is a full-time, in-person leadership position based out of our Sedalia, CO location.
The Director of Operations is expected to be present and engaged during daily company operations, including when field crews are preparing for and beginning their workday. This position requires regular interaction with crews and department leaders and involves time both in the office and in the field.
Because this position is responsible for field operations and scheduling, the Director of Operations must be comfortable responding to changing priorities and operational needs throughout the workday.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
