Deaconess Health System, a physician-led health system recognized for clinical excellence and patient-centered care, is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician to join our hospital-employed emergency medicine team at Deaconess Illinois Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois.
This opportunity offers the autonomy and variety of rural emergency medicine with the support and resources of a regional health system.
Position Highlights
- Approximately 8,800 annual Emergency Department visits
- Average of 20–25 patient encounters per 24-hour shift
- Full-time schedule consists of approximately six 24-hour shifts per month (1,728 hours annually)
- Physician-only Emergency Department coverage (no advanced practice provider coverage)
- Hospital-employed physician group with full-time and supplemental physician support
- EPIC electronic medical record system
- Holiday coverage required
- J-1 candidates welcome
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, or
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine with significant Emergency Medicine experience and/or Emergency Medicine fellowship training
- Prior Emergency Medicine experience required
- Eligible for Illinois medical licensure
- Strong clinical, communication, and teamwork skills
Compensation & Incentives
- Average compensation of $215 per hour with annual earning potential up to $400,000
- Up to $164,000 in additional incentives, including:
- $50,000 sign-on bonus
- $75,000 student loan forgiveness
- $24,000 educational assistance
- $15,000 relocation allowance

Practice Environment
Deaconess Illinois Union County Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital serving Union County and surrounding communities throughout Southern Illinois.
Emergency physicians practice independently in a physician-only Emergency Department and are supported by Deaconess Illinois' dedicated transfer center, providing streamlined access to specialty care when needed.
Specialty support is available through Deaconess Illinois Medical Center in Marion and includes:
- General Surgery
- Neurology
- Interventional Cardiology
- Nephrology
- Gastroenterology
- Additional inpatient and specialty services
This integrated referral network allows physicians to provide comprehensive emergency care while maintaining efficient access to higher levels of specialty treatment.
