Location: Remote (North Carolina residents only) Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: $48,000/year | Non-Exempt Salaried
Join Certum Solutions
Are you a detail-oriented bookkeeper who knows an industry — or several — inside and out? Certum Solutions is a tech-forward, vendor-agnostic accounting and ERP consulting firm, and we're building a bench of remote Full Charge Bookkeepers across a range of industry specializations. Whether your strength is retail and eCommerce, property management, nonprofit fund accounting, construction job costing, manufacturing and distribution, or professional services, we want to hear from you. We serve clients across 15+ industries nationwide, and we're casting a wide net to match the right bookkeeper to the right client work as it comes in.
About Certum Solutions
Certum Solutions is a boutique, U.S.-based accounting and ERP consulting firm purpose-built for businesses generating $1M–$30M in revenue. We deliver bookkeeping, accounting software implementation, ERP consulting, and fractional CFO advisory all under one roof. We're platform-agnostic and vendor-neutral, holding certifications across QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho, Odoo, Cin7, Katana, and more. We're woman-owned, BBB-accredited (A+), and have served thousands of clients across the country.
About the Role
We're hiring Full Charge Bookkeepers with deep experience in one or more industry verticals. The clients we serve each carry distinct accounting requirements — job costing for contractors, fund and grant tracking for nonprofits, inventory and multi-channel reconciliation for retail and product businesses, CAM reconciliations and owner statements for property management, and so on. The ideal candidate owns the full bookkeeping cycle, is comfortable client-facing, and brings real fluency in at least one of the industries below (more is a plus). This is a fully remote position open to North Carolina residents only.
Industry Specializations We're Recruiting For
We welcome applicants whose experience centers on any of the following (tell us your strongest areas):
- Retail & eCommerce — multi-channel sales reconciliation, inventory costing, sales tax, payment processor and marketplace payout matching (Shopify, Amazon, BigCommerce, etc.)
- Property Management & Real Estate — trust/escrow accounting, owner statements, CAM reconciliations, per-property P&Ls, tenant AR
- Nonprofit — fund accounting, grant tracking, restricted/unrestricted fund management, donor reporting, Form 990 support, board-ready financials
- Construction & Trades — job costing, WIP schedules, progress billing, retainage, labor cost allocation by project, certified payroll
- Manufacturing & Distribution — inventory valuation, COGS, BOM/production costing, multi-location reporting
- Professional Services / Other — project-based billing, multi-client operations, and other industries
A Day in the Life
No two days at Certum look exactly alike — and that's intentional. You might start the morning reconciling accounts for a couple of clients in your specialty, then jump on a video call to walk a client through a new QuickBooks Online or Xero workflow. Midday could bring a job-costing update for a contractor, a grant tracking review for a nonprofit prepping for audit, or an inventory reconciliation for a product-based client — followed by coordinating year-end close with an external CPA. You'll wrap up by logging your time in Canopy, collaborating with teammates on a new client onboarding in Teams, and flagging a variance you caught in a budget vs. actual report. You'll be supported by a team that values your expertise, invests in your growth, and genuinely enjoys the work.
What You'll Do
- Own day-to-day transactions, reconciliations, and AP/AR across multiple clients in your industry specialization(s)
- Process payroll, sales tax, and compliance filings (1099s, W-2s, etc.)
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements appropriate to each client's industry
- Apply industry-specific bookkeeping — e.g., fund/grant accounting (nonprofit), job costing and WIP (construction), inventory and multi-channel reconciliation (retail/eCommerce/manufacturing), owner statements and trust accounting (property management)
- Support budget vs. actual reporting and variance analysis for client review
- Assist with audit preparation, including pulling schedules, reconciling to trial balance, and coordinating with external auditors
- Manage month-end and year-end close in accordance with GAAP
- Onboard new clients, including chart of accounts setup, software configuration, and workflow documentation
- Train clients on bookkeeping tasks and software workflows (remote and occasional in-person)
- Support clients across QuickBooks Online/Desktop/Enterprise, Xero, Zoho Books, and Odoo ERP; familiarity with Cin7, Katana, or Digits AI Accounting a plus
- Track time and manage client tasks in Canopy Practice Management
- Collaborate with the internal team using Microsoft 365 and Teams
- Take on additional responsibilities as client needs and firm capacity grow
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Associate's degree + 3 years' experience considered)
- 3–5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, with demonstrated depth in at least one industry vertical (retail/eCommerce, property management, nonprofit, construction, manufacturing/distribution, or professional services)
- Hands-on QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop experience required; Xero, Zoho, ERP, or Odoo experience a plus
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience managing multiple clients or projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-first mindset
- Comfortable with remote work; reliable internet and a dedicated home office workspace required
- Public accounting, fractional CFO support, or accounting consulting experience a plus
Preferred & Bonus Qualifications
- Deep specialization in more than one of our target industries
- Experience with Xero, Avalara, Shopify, Cin7, Katana, Bloomerang, or Digits AI Accounting
- Industry-specific tools (e.g., property management or construction management platforms, marketplace/eCommerce connectors)
- Prior tax prep support, including Form 990 and state reporting
- CPA, CMA, EA, AFSP, or Certified Bookkeeper credential
- Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $48,000/year | Non-Exempt Salaried | Full-Time
- Device: Company-provided work device supplied upon hire
- Retirement: 401(k) with 3% employer match
- Health: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance eligibility for full-time employees
