Duties
- Perform venipuncture (blood sampling) and capillary punctures with accuracy and aseptic technique to obtain high-quality specimens.
- Collect, process, label, and transport laboratory specimens following established protocols to ensure specimen integrity.
- Assist in preparing samples for laboratory analysis, maintaining proper storage conditions when necessary.
- Provide compassionate patient care by explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during specimen collection.
- Monitor vital signs when required and observe patient responses to procedures, reporting any anomalies promptly.
- Maintain strict adherence to laboratory safety standards, including infection control practices such as aseptic techniques.
- Support laboratory operations by organizing supplies, managing documentation, and ensuring compliance with medical terminology standards.
Skills
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, blood sampling, and specimen collection within a clinical or hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and medical terminology relevant to blood collection and processing.
- Familiarity with physiology concepts such as anatomy knowledge, vital signs monitoring, and basic life support (CPR).
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., moving supplies or equipment) while maintaining safety protocols.
- Experience working in hospital environments or clinical laboratories is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique, venipuncture procedures (including venipuncture), and blood sampling best practices.
