We are seeking a counselor to work in our outpatient substance abuse treatment program with adults with substance use or co-occurring disorders. The counselor will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team conducting biopsychosocial assessments on the contributing factors that causes substance use/abuse and providing individual and group counseling services, and educating families on the best way to help in the recovery process.
Counselor Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates an ability to conduct intake evaluations that lead to well-developed diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans.
- Demonstrates competence in developing strength based, person centered treatment plans that include EBT interventions.
- Establishment of rapport and effective working relationship with client.
- Demonstrates the use of language that is encouraging and hopeful in conversations with clients.
- Demonstrates ability to use community resources in delivering therapeutic services.
- Demonstrates a sensitivity to the client’s frame of reference.
- Demonstrates the ability to coordinate treatment with referral sources, physicians and mental health providers.
- Sensitive to own emotional reactions to client (transference, Countertransference), parallel process and is open to discussion of these.
- Demonstrates an ability to identify client stage of change and use appropriate motivational interviewing tasks.
- Demonstrate M.I. spirit (Person centered collaboration; Evocation; Respectful Autonomy; Understanding and acceptance) uses them constructively, and seeks consultation when necessary.
- Demonstrates positive coping strategies with personal and professional challenges; maintains professional functioning and quality client care.
- Demonstrates self-direction to expand knowledge and skills (independently seeks out information to enhance clinical practice), utilizing available databases, professional literature, seminars and training sessions, and other resources.
- Models a commitment to educational and scholarly endeavors to keep current with the most recent research with areas of interest to enhance and inform professional practice.
- Demonstrates commitment to seek out supervision to refine and enhance professional skills.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree Required
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, empathy, motivation, and character
- Work cooperatively with other staff and clients in a positive manner
- Counseling experience working in a client-focused/person centered and fast-paced professional environment
- Prefer licensed or license-ready practitioner in the field of addiction or mental health
- Additional job duties may be assigned, as needed.
