Job Summary
Career1 is hiring Assistant Press Operators for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity with a plastic manufacturing company in Houston.
The Assistant Press Operator supports printing press operations by assisting with machine setup, material handling, quality checks, and maintaining safe and efficient production.
The position involves working with flexographic printing equipment, including Vistaflex and Miraflex presses, as well as web-handling systems, ink systems, and waste-management processes.
The first two weeks of training will be conducted on the day shift.
After training, employees will transition to the assigned 12-hour rotating schedule. Employees working the night shift will be paid $17.00/hour.
This is a temp-to-hire position with the opportunity for permanent employment based on performance, attendance, and the company's business needs.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance
- Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hair/beard nets, and an ink-room face shield when required.
- Follow all plant safety guidelines and FSSC food safety and hygiene protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all production, safety, and quality procedures.
Machine Operation & Technical Support
- Assist with setup and operation of flexographic printing equipment.
- Load, unload, align, and center substrate rolls on unwind and rewind systems using pallet jacks or roll manipulators.
- Perform manual and automatic roll splicing, ensuring proper alignment and tape adhesion to help prevent press stoppages.
- Monitor ink systems and assist with viscosity adjustments.
- Assist with cleaning cycles, including TurboClean, doctor blades, and ink pans.
- Assist with web-handling systems and production materials.
- Monitor production processes and assist with quality checks.
- Help minimize downtime and production waste.
- Perform additional production duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Reliable and dependable.
- Able to work a 12-hour rotating schedule, 4 days on / 2 days off.
- Available to complete the first two weeks of training on the day shift.
- Reliable and consistent transportation required.
- Strong attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Comfortable working in a hot, industrial, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable wearing required PPE, including steel-toe shoes.
- Able to follow instructions, safety procedures, and production requirements.
- Manufacturing, printing, warehouse, or general labor experience is a plus.
- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus but not required.
- Eager to learn and interested in long-term growth with the company.
Screening Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Complete I-9 documentation and receive successful E-Verify authorization.
- Pass a 7-year background check.
- Pass a pre-employment physical, including vision, hearing, and heavy-lifting requirements.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Meet the physical requirements of the position.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, lift, and perform repetitive tasks.

- Work extended periods during a 12-hour shift.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a hot, industrial plastic manufacturing and printing environment. The facility may include machine noise, dust, industrial odors, inks, and varying temperatures. Employees must wear required PPE and follow all safety and food safety procedures.
Additional Information
The first two weeks are dedicated to training on the day shift at $15.00/hour. Following training, employees will work the assigned 12-hour rotating schedule.
Day Shift: $15.00/hour
Night Shift: $17.00/hour
