Position Overview:
Lima Central Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered professional to serve as our Athletic Trainer & Health Teacher. This unique role blends classroom instruction with hands-on athletic care, supporting the physical well-being and overall development of our students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing injury, and providing high-quality care to student-athletes while also fostering engaging and meaningful learning in the classroom.
Primary Responsibilities:
Health Instruction (During the School Day):
- Teach Health courses for assigned two class periods, aligned with Ohio standards and LCC’s mission
- Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lessons focused on physical, mental, and emotional wellness
- Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate records and communication with students and families
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports the growth of the whole student
Athletic Training & Student Care (After School/Evenings):
- Provide athletic training services for school athletic programs, including injury prevention, evaluation, and care
- Be present at home athletic events and provide appropriate on-site medical coverage
- Be present at away football games to support student-athlete safety and care
- Administer first aid, taping, icing, and rehabilitation support for student-athletes
- Develop and oversee injury recovery and return-to-play plans in collaboration with coaches, families, and medical professionals
- Maintain accurate documentation of injuries and treatments
Collaboration & School Involvement:
- Communicate regularly with coaches, administration, and families regarding student-athlete health and participation
- Support the mission of Lima Central Catholic by modeling professionalism, integrity, and care for each student
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and community-building activities
- Assist in promoting a culture of wellness across the school community
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC) and/or Registered Nurse (RN) preferred
- Valid teaching license (or ability to obtain) in Health or related field
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
Work Schedule:
- School-day teaching responsibilities (2 periods each school day)
- After-school responsibilities including practices, training room hours, and home athletic events
- Flexible summer schedule based on athletic needs, with opportunities for adjusted hours and time off outside of peak sports seasons
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary range of approximately $55,000-$65,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, and placement on the teaching scale
- Salaried position with flexibility in scheduling and approximately 1,500 athletic training hours annually
