Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Business Development Manager to expand our truck hauling and construction-related services throughout the Charlotte metro area and surrounding markets.
This position will be responsible for developing relationships with contractors, developers, grading companies, quarries, asphalt plants, concrete companies, and other construction-industry customers. The Business Development Manager will identify new hauling opportunities, secure contracts, generate sales, and maintain strong customer relationships to support long-term company growth.
The ideal candidate will have experience in outside sales or dump trucking, construction, aggregate hauling, site development, excavation, and logistics. The candidate must possess strong communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and closing skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development and Sales
- Identify, pursue, and secure new hauling and construction-related contracts.
- Develop relationships with general contractors, grading contractors, paving companies, developers, quarries, asphalt plants, concrete companies, municipalities, and property owners.
- Generate and qualify leads through networking, referrals, cold calling, jobsite visits, bid platforms, industry events, and market research.
- Identify upcoming construction projects and hauling opportunities throughout the assigned market.
- Conduct jobsite visits to evaluate project requirements, site access, material quantities, hauling requirements, and scheduling needs.
- Prepare and present professional proposals, bids, hauling rates, and service agreements.
- Follow up consistently with prospective customers and close qualified sales opportunities.
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective and existing customers.
- Respond promptly and professionally to hauling requests, bid invitations, pricing inquiries, and customer concerns.
- Conduct regular jobsite and customer visits to evaluate satisfaction and identify additional service opportunities.
- Maintain strong relationships with project managers, superintendents, estimators, dispatchers, purchasing departments, business owners, and municipal representatives.
- Assist with customer retention by ensuring reliable communication and responsive service.
- Follow up with customers throughout active projects to confirm that scheduling and hauling requirements are being met.
- Coordinate with operations to resolve service, scheduling, or jobsite concerns.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in any business development field, outside sales, account management, management in a construction related field, project management, construction, logistics, or a related field.
- Proven ability to develop new business and close sales.
- Familiarity with hourly, tonnage, load-based, and project-based hauling rates.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, estimating software, and CRM systems.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
· If you have existing relationships within the local construction, trucking, quarry, or contracting industries are preferred.
· Understanding of dump truck operations, construction scheduling, material hauling, and jobsite requirements.
Physical and Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned market area.
- Ability to visit construction sites, quarries, landfills, asphalt plants, and material yards.
- Ability to walk active jobsites.
- Ability to work outdoors.
- Ability to attend occasional after hours industry events.
