Mind Your Pees and Poos | Charleston, SC
Earn up to $56/hour while spending your days with animals, building meaningful relationships with clients.
Mind Your Pees and Poos isn't your average pet services company. We were voted Best Dog Walking Service in Charleston and nominated for Best Pet Sitting Service and Best Doggy Daycare because we believe pet care is about much more than taking a dog outside or staying overnight with a client's animal. It's about creating an exceptional experience for every client, every single visit.
When someone gives us the keys to their home and entrusts us with a member of their family, we treat that responsibility with the utmost respect.
If you're looking for a simple side gig where you can show up, walk a dog, and leave, this probably isn't the right fit.
If you take pride in doing things the right way, genuinely enjoy serving others, and want to be part of a team that holds itself to a higher standard, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
- Dog walking
- Drop-in visits
- Overnight pet sitting in clients' homes or in your own home (required)
- Meet and greets with prospective clients
- Multiple visit reports with photos/videos
- Administer medications when needed
- Build lasting relationships with clients and their pets
Applicants must be willing to provide overnight pet sitting in either the client's home or their own home. Bonus if you're able to offer both!
Availability Requirements
This position works best for someone with flexible daytime and weekend availability.
Many of our visits take place between traditional working hours, so we're looking for people whose schedules allow them to accept bookings during the day and on weekends.
Examples of people who often thrive in this role include:
- Someone who works from home and has a flexible schedule
- A retiree looking for rewarding, active work
- A stay-at-home parent with school-aged children
- A freelancer or self-employed professional with daytime flexibility
- Someone with another part-time job that allows schedule flexibility
This role is generally not a good fit for someone who works a traditional 9-to-5 job away from home Monday through Friday.
Because our clients often book vacations and recurring services months in advance, we ask every team member to commit to remaining with Mind Your Pees and Poos for at least eight months. This allows us to build lasting relationships between our clients and their dedicated pet care providers.
Who Thrives Here
We're looking for someone who is:
- Adaptable. Every day is different. Plans change, pets surprise you, and schedules shift. You stay calm, flexible, and solution-oriented.
- Reliable. If you commit to a booking, our clients and teammates know they can count on you.
- A great conversationalist. Our clients love talking about their pets. Building genuine relationships is a huge part of what we do.
- Customer-focused. You naturally look for ways to make someone's day easier rather than doing only what's required.
- Resourceful. You use good judgment and can solve minor problems independently while knowing when to ask for help.
- Observant. You notice details that others might miss, whether it's a change in a pet's behavior or something unusual at a client's home.
- Professional. You'll often have access to clients' homes, alarm codes, and personal property. Trust is everything.
- Compassionate. You genuinely care about the people and pets you serve.
- Responsive. We move quickly. Whether it's a client question or a potential booking, prompt communication is essential.
Communication Matters
Our clients expect quick responses, and so do we.
You don't have to be glued to your phone all day, but you do need to check your phone and messages regularly.
When we reach out about a potential booking, we ask that you respond within 30 minutes, even if it's simply to say:
"I'm checking my schedule and will get back to you shortly."
A quick response helps us provide excellent service to our clients and keeps bookings moving smoothly.
If you're someone who rarely checks your phone, regularly misses texts or emails, or prefers to respond hours later, this probably won't be the right fit.
We Put Clients First. Always.
Our clients aren't hiring us to simply complete a checklist.
They're trusting us with their homes, their routines, and the family member they love most.
That means we look for opportunities to make life easier, even when no one asks.
Maybe a client accidentally leaves their dog's favorite toy at your house after an overnight boarding stay. Instead of waiting until the next booking, you offer to drop it off.
Maybe you notice a package sitting on the front porch and bring it inside.
Maybe you offer to water the plants or wash the sheets after an overnight.
Those things aren't technically part of the job. They're part of delivering exceptional service.
We don't expect anyone to take on unreasonable requests. We simply look for people who naturally ask themselves, "If this were my home and my pet, what would I appreciate someone doing for me?"
That mindset is what has made us one of Charleston's most trusted pet care companies.
We Treat Clients' Homes Like Guests, Not Hotels
When you're staying overnight in someone's home, you're a trusted guest. You're there to care for their pets, not to enjoy a free place to stay.
That means we don't ask questions like:
- "Do you have cable?"
- "Can I invite friends over?"
- "Can my significant other stay the night?"
Instead, we respect every client's home as if it were our own. Leave no trace of your visit except a happy, well-cared-for pet.
Coachability Matters
Almost anyone can put a leash on a dog and take it for a walk.
That's not what makes someone successful at Mind Your Pees and Poos.
Many people assume pet care is simple and that there's no reason to follow established systems or procedures. We see it differently.
We were voted Best in Charleston and Charleston's Choice for a reason.
It's because we've built thoughtful systems and service standards that create an exceptional, consistent experience for every client.
We're looking for people who are open to feedback, eager to learn, and willing to do things the Mind Your Pees and Poos way — even if it's different from how they've done it elsewhere or how they personally would approach it.
We absolutely welcome ideas and suggestions. Some of our best improvements have come from team members.
But once we've established a process, we expect everyone to follow it consistently. That's how we deliver the award-winning service our clients know and trust.
