Position: Behavior Technician
Reports To: Director of School Culture
Position Summary:
The Behavior Technician supports a safe, structured, and positive school environment by supervising students, addressing behavioral challenges, and reinforcing school expectations. This role works closely with school leadership, including Deans and Director of School Culture, to promote student accountability, engagement, and success throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Supervision & Transitions
- Monitor and support student movement during class transitions to ensure safety and timeliness
- Provide active hallway presence to prevent and de-escalate conflicts
- Enforce school expectations in common areas
- Morning Arrival & Security Procedures
- Assist with student arrival, including security screening protocols
- Oversee and manage student cell phone collection in alignment with school policy
- Greet students and establish a positive tone for the school day
- Lunch Duty
- Supervise cafeteria and common areas during lunch periods
- Promote respectful behavior and ensure adherence to school rules
- Address and de-escalate any conflicts or disruptions
- Behavior Management & Student Support
- Support students with behavioral challenges using de-escalation strategies and restorative practices
- Reinforce positive behavior and school culture expectations
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and redirection to students
- Support to School Leadership
- Assist Deans with investigations, behavior interventions, and follow-up actions
- Escort students as needed and support removal/restoration processes
- Document behavior incidents accurately and promptly
- Additional Duties
- Build positive relationships with students to foster trust and accountability
- Participate in behavior intervention planning and team meetings
- Support school-wide events, drills, and assemblies
- Maintain visibility throughout the building to ensure safety and order
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to support classroom management when needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with adolescents in a school or youth development setting
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional in high-pressure situations
- Commitment to equity, student development, and positive school culture
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with restorative practices or behavior intervention strategies
- Familiarity with school safety procedures and student supervision
- Ability to build rapport with diverse student populations
Work Environment: Fast-paced school setting requires frequent movement, active supervision, and consistent engagement with students throughout the day.
