The Coordinator of International Student Orientation will be assisting with the planning and executing the orientation program for approximately 35-50 new international students. The coordinator will play a vital role in helping the students adjust to our campus, Cortland community, and culture by creating a welcoming and informative environment. The coordinator will serve as a resource and reference related to all campus procedures and policies, as well as social adjustment. The coordinator will be responsible for helping students move into their housing, creating events, producing orientation materials, publicity, supervising 3-5 Orientation Leaders, transportation, and general administrative preparations before and during the orientation. After orientation the coordinator will be required to collect feedback from students and Orientation Leaders and write a summary report reflecting on the welcome week.
In addition, the coordinator must be fully available during the entire orientation period:
August 25 – 30, 2026. Orientation training will be held on
Monday, August 24. The coordinator will not be able to hold any additional employment during this time period.
The Coordinator of International Student Orientation will be responsible for the following tasks:
- The coordinator will be required to drive a 12 or a 7- passenger van to the Syracuse or Ithaca airports, or Cortland/Syracuse bus station to welcome students.
- The coordinator will accompany and aid the students on shopping trips to local stores.
- The coordinator will help the new students become familiar with the campus, including setting up SIM card for cellphones, Wi-Fi in the residence Hall, obtaining their university IDs, visiting the library, locating bus stops and other important campus locations, and learning campus procedures.
- The coordinator will also be required to help students move into their housing and take students to local stores, and SUNY Cortland Orientation Week sessions, evening events and meals.
- After orientation the Coordinator will be required to provide written feedback to the International Programs Office reflecting on the International Student Orientation Week.
- All the activities and some of the meals are included during orientation week. If needed, we can arrange housing during the orientation week. Students that are residing on-campus in the Fall, will be able to move in early into their assigned room/apartment.
