This position is a covered position as defined in the Coquille Indian Tribe Chapter 185 Child Protection Ordinance.
Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen and Criminal and Character Background Check.
JOB SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Under the direct supervision of the Head Start Program Manager, this position will be responsible for menu planning, meal preparation and all purchasing related to Head Start and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal services and Summer Food Program. Other major functions include preparing meals for the Head Start Program, Policy Council meetings, parent meeting and/or any additional scheduled functions. This position will also include completing the CACFP daily paperwork; work with the teaching team, parents and children; participate in training programs and keeping the kitchen a clean and safe environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Shopping, preparation, and planning of meals and snacks that meet CACFP guidelines.
2. Prepare rotation menus that meet nutritional guidelines that are appealing to children. Menus are posted monthly in the classroom and shared with families.
3. Maintain meal prep and storage sanitation standards based on state and program guidelines.
4. Provide nutrition education, materials, and training to program youth, staff, and families.
5. Track, monitor and submit all paperwork and reports needed to meet the requirements of the CACFP and Summer Food Program, including daily/monthly attendance, meal counts, receipts, reimbursements, and funding applications.
6. Attend all mandatory/needed training to meet program requirements for compliance.
7. Assist the Disabilities, Health, and Family Services Coordinator with reviewing the children’s health records for allergies and the annual nutritional assessment. Make menu adjustments to meet the needs of the program participants.
8. Maintain kitchen sanitation to ensure sanitary guidelines and schedule annual inspections.
9. Ensure staff and kitchen volunteers receive kitchen expectation guidelines, required training, and follow all kitchen and meal sanitation expectations.
10. Work with teaching team to provide children with opportunity to participate in food preparation, projects, and nutrition education.
11. Responsible for the inventory, maintenance, and purchasing of kitchen supplies, materials, and equipment.
12. Keep kitchen and equipment organized, stocked, cleaned and in good working order.
13. Maintain a positive attitude regarding the Head Start program and philosophy.
14. Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of diversity
15. Perform other duties as designated by supervisor. Employees may occasionally be asked to work alternate hours and weekends.
16. Maintain confidentiality.
17. Participate in staff meetings, assigned training and other functions directed by the supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to communicate orally, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers, often requires walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, raising, or lowering objects, stooping and occasionally requires lifting to 50 pounds. Will often be required to travel by automobile, commercial or private carrier. Local travel is frequently required, statewide and national travel is occasionally required. 7. Be computer literate. Exhibit a level of computer literacy sufficient to use software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to produce correspondence, documents, and reports.
8. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as basic arithmetic.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality; a breach of confidentiality is grounds for immediate dismissal.
10. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments to accomplish assigned tasks; ability to develop good working relationships with other departments in the organization.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School graduate or equivalent required.
2. Must have Food Handler’s Card or be able to obtain one.
3. Must have CPR/First Aid certification or be able and willing to obtain one.
4. 1 years’ experience cooking in a school setting required.
5. Knowledge of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) preferred.
6. Must be willing to follow the program food requirements.
7. Current and valid Oregon driver’s license in good standing is required with no insurability restrictions from the Tribe’s insurance carrier.
8. Required to accept the responsibility of a mandatory reporter of abuse and neglect of infants and children, people who are elderly or dependent, individuals with mental illness or development disabilities or residents of nursing homes and other health care facilities. This includes reporting any evidence of physical injury, neglect, sexual or emotional abuse or financial exploitation.
