The Estimator manages the preconstruction process by effectively communicating budget and other documentation related issues with owner, architect, and/or consultants. The Estimator conceptualizes and produces fully detailed estimates from limited amounts of information. As an estimator, the incumbent must also ensure labor rates and equipment rates are consistent with the contracting method of the project.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PRECONSTRUCTION
- Understand, identify, assemble, and execute a lump-sum public bid.
- Ensure quantity surveys, formulas, estimate details, and executive summaries are accurate and complete.
- Ensure that nomenclature accurately describes the information being distributed and that narrative information appropriately describes the estimate content and project specific exclusions.
- Arrange and keep appointments.
- Organize and process paperwork (executive summaries, estimate detail reports, estimate narratives, and general correspondence) quickly and efficiently.
- Return phone calls in a timely manner.
- Recall and leverage historical information to realize current efficiencies.
- Any other task or duty as assigned or required.
SAFETY
- Display general safety awareness in daily tasks and assignments.
- Understand Truebeck’s safety requirements and the costs associated with implementing these
requirements in relation to self-performed, subcontracted work, and temporary protective measures.
- Support and participate in company training (OSHA 30, Safety Breakfasts, etc.).
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
- Identify new opportunities within the context of the assigned project or professional network by
participating in industry associations and events.
- Communicate effectively and on a regular basis to clients and stakeholders to ensure the desired result.
- Expedite critical issues to resolution.
- Maintain open channels of communication throughout assigned tasks to ensure efficient completion.
- Protect Truebeck’s interests at all times without sacrificing relationships or personal integrity.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or Civil Engineering.
- Four to six years previous experience working for a General Contractor
- Full knowledge of computer software, i.e. MS Word, Excel, Project.
- Experience with Timberline estimating software and blue beam.
- Display well-rounded technical construction knowledge and skills.
- Understand self-performed and subcontractor's scopes of work.
- Have constructability problem-solving and ability to offer alternate viable solutions.
- Display good understanding of content included/required at varying levels of project documentation (schematic, design development, etc).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTThe incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
The incumbent may also make frequent visits to various construction sites. At these construction sites, the incumbent may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
