The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the upkeep of existing HVAC systems in Dallas, Texas, ensuring their continued performance, durability, and quality. This position provides daily engineering support to manufacturing operations, leads cost-saving efforts, handles engineering changes, and collaborates with suppliers, production teams, and various departments. The engineer is also tasked with guiding and overseeing junior engineers or interns and independently managing maintenance projects.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities and Objectives:

The Maintenance Engineer – HVAC is dedicated to supporting the ongoing operations and maintenance of HVAC systems to ensure they meet performance standards, quality benchmarks, and cost efficiency goals.

Providing technical assistance to factory operations and resolving engineering issues promptly.

Leading initiatives for product enhancement, cost reduction, and manufacturability improvements.

Managing engineering changes, supplier relationships, and documentation updates.

Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements in the HVAC sector.

Providing mentorship to junior team members and managing small-scale projects independently.

Day-to-Day Tasks:

Offering daily technical support to production and factory teams.

Managing Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), updating Bill of Materials (BOM), and conducting supplier testing for qualification.

Developing and validating minor design changes to improve manufacturability and quality standards.

Participating in efficiency enhancement projects and cost-saving endeavors.

Collaborating with the supply chain for supplier evaluations and material qualifications.

Utilizing problem-solving tools to address and resolve technical issues efficiently.

Interacting with suppliers and factory leadership to tackle engineering challenges effectively.

Maintaining engineering documentation accurately and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Providing support and guidance to interns and new team members through mentorship.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Primarily working in an office setting with regular interactions across various departments.

Collaborating frequently with factory operations, which may involve time spent on the production floor.

Occasional visits to suppliers or participation in vendor qualification testing activities.

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods while overseeing equipment operations.

Lifting up to 25 lbs may be required for prototype handling or lab testing purposes.

Operating in a fast-paced environment necessitates adaptability, multitasking skills, and effective communication abilities.

Required Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).

Experience: 2–5 years in roles such as sustaining engineering, manufacturing engineering, or HVAC product engineering.

Certifications: Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a desirable qualification.

Technical Skills:

Thorough understanding of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and Product Lifecycle Management systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).

Experience with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), BOM management, and supplier qualification processes.

Familiarity with HVAC industry standards such as ASHRAE, UL, AHRI, and DOE.

Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, independence in work, effective teamwork, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
