Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and orthodontic equipment, including 3D scanners and dental x-ray machines.
- Assist orthodontists during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) ensuring adherence to infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices related to orthodontic appliances and provide post-treatment instructions to promote optimal results.
- Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation when necessary, especially for pediatric or special needs patients.
- Maintain infection control standards by sterilizing instruments, processing dental equipment, and following clinical confidentiality policies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with a focus on orthodontics or general dentistry; experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Proficiency in dental assisting procedures including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and dental sterilization procedures.
- Familiarity with dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding for accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of dental imaging technology such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners; ability to operate patient management software like Dentrix or Epic is preferred.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management and healthcare infection control practices.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages while demonstrating professionalism and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail in medical records management and clinical procedures.
