- Located at Eden Prairie Maintenance Facility (15150 Technology Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55344)
- Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Must be available to work after hours and weekends.
The Street Maintenance Operator is responsible for performing maintenance activities for the public right-of-way including patching, mowing, snow plowing, concrete repair, and street sweeping. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude to perform a variety of maintenance activities using hand, power, and heavy equipment including pickups, dump trucks, compressor/air tools, chainsaws, skid steer loader, front loader, grader, tractors, sweepers, rollers, chipper, and bucket truck. Assists our sign and signal technical areas with installations, maintenance, and construction. Performs daily preventative maintenance and pre-trip dot inspections. Completes special projects as assigned by the Streets Division Manager.
- Develops and applies specialized skills to the division in areas such as carpentry, welding, and advanced repairs. Provides specialized skills training and finds opportunities to develop and use technical knowledge to support the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Demonstrates safe equipment operation and working conditions in traffic on city streets and entering confined spaces. Reads maps, performs division record keeping, and utilizes computer technology to assist in these activities.
- Responds to and resolves customer issues and complaints, including down or damaged street signals and professionally represents the city to outside organizations.
- Actively participates in educational requirements to maintain appropriate licensing or certificates.
- Participates in snow-clearing operations by operating any of the necessary response vehicles during a snow or other emergency event.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the city.
- Associate’s degree or two-year technical degree is preferred.
- A commercial driver’s license (CDL Class-A) with air brakes and tanker endorsement is obtained within six months of employment is required.
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience is preferred.
- Other trade experience in concrete, road construction, tree trimming, welding, sweeping, mechanical, sign/signals etc. is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
- Occasionally exertion of force in excess of 50 and/or up to 100 pounds to move objects or equipment accessories is required. Must be able to exert 20-50 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Most work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of vehicles. Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold. Conditions can include working in wet, muddy, slippery, or dusty and windy conditions. At these times there may be intermittent exposure to very disagreeable working conditions. There is often exposure to traffic and moving equipment.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position include professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check (must have valid driver’s license and excellent driving record), CDL process, pre-employment physical exam, skills assessment and work history verification.
