Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems accurately.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to support clinical assessments.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including setting up X-ray or ultrasound equipment when applicable.
- Perform basic clinical procedures such as phlebotomy (blood draws), medication administration under supervision, and wound care.
- Document medical information thoroughly in medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and ICD coding standards.
- Support physicians during examinations by handing instruments, preparing supplies, and assisting with minor procedures in outpatient or hospital settings.
- Manage administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, managing medical documentation, and maintaining organized medical records within EMR/EHR systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar medical office role with knowledge of medical terminology and physiology.
- Hands-on experience in dermatology, urgent care, hospital medicine, or emergency medicine is highly preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy certification or medication administration are advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for electronic health records management and documentation accuracy.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, pharmacology, ICD coding, and medical-surgical procedures to ensure precise patient care delivery.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers with inpatient experience preferred.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse patient populations including geriatrics and pediatric intensive care units (PICU).
