Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Critical Care Float Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert nursing care across multiple acute and critical care settings, including intensive care units, emergency departments, medical-surgical units, and specialty clinics. The Critical Care Float RN ensures seamless patient care delivery by adapting to various clinical environments, utilizing comprehensive nursing knowledge, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients with complex medical needs.
- Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Manage airway support devices such as ventilators and perform advanced procedures like tube feeding and catheterization.
- Monitor vital signs, interpret laboratory results, and perform diagnostic evaluations to inform clinical decisions.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in acute pain management, trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and other specialties.
- Document patient care accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in triage processes for urgent cases, prioritizing patient needs efficiently across multiple departments.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and long-term care strategies.
- Maintain proficiency in emergency procedures including basic life support (BLS), airway management, and sterile processing.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and ICD coding practices to enhance patient safety.
Skills
- Proven critical care experience within ICU and ER settings or Level I/II trauma centers
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to acute care nursing.
- Skilled in performing complex procedures including suturing, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and ostomy care.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, memory care patients, and those requiring hospice or palliative medicine.
- Ability to adapt quickly across various clinical environments such as emergency room, outpatient clinics, home care settings, or assisted living facilities.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health cases; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills for effective case management and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Commitment to infection control standards and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety.
