Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting, cost management, and compliance with industry standards. Your expertise will help drive project success through meticulous financial analysis, reporting, and coordination with project teams. Responsibilities
- Manage project budgets by tracking expenses, analyzing variances, and ensuring cost control measures are implemented effectively.
- Prepare and interpret financial reports related to construction projects, including cash flow analysis, cost analysis, and project profitability assessments.
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries for each project using accounting systems such as SAP, Sage, or QuickBooks.
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis and support forecasting efforts to predict future project financial needs.
- Collaborate with project managers to gather data for financial report writing and provide insights into budget performance.
- Ensure adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and maintain thorough documentation for audit purposes.
- Utilize business intelligence tools and spreadsheets for data collection, analysis, and presentation of financial information.
- Support month-end closing processes by preparing journal entries related to payroll, debits & credits, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of ERP systems such as SAP or Xero to streamline financial workflows within the construction environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in accounting within the manufacturing or construction industry with a strong understanding of cost management and financial concepts.
- Procore experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial software including SAP, QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar ERP systems.
- Strong data analysis skills with proficiency in Excel data analysis and spreadsheets for financial modeling and reporting.
- Knowledge of GAAP standards, double entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting principles relevant to construction projects.
- Experience with cost accounting analysis, budgeting processes, cash flow analysis, and forecasting techniques.
- Familiarity with public accounting practices is a plus; ability to interpret financial reports accurately is essential.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable management, and account analysis.
- Strong communication skills for clear financial report writing and collaboration across teams.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new accounting systems and business intelligence tools while maintaining compliance with SOX controls.
