Job Overview
Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others? We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and empathetic Activities Coordinator to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism. In this role, you will help clients navigate social environments, build lasting relationships, and increase their daily independence.
This unique position blends elements of life coaching, advocacy, community integration, and behavioral support (as directed by the family). Using creative outlets like arts & crafts, fitness, and real-world practice, you will guide clients toward achieving their personal goals and thriving in their communities. You will meet individuals in their home, out in the community or in our office.
This position requires you to drive. Must provide valid drivers license and valid car insurance. Must have own car.
Key Responsibilities
- Skill Training & Communication: Teach both verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including active listening, interpreting facial expressions, and understanding social cues.
- Practical Coaching: Utilize evidence-based techniques—such as role-playing, video modeling, and social stories—to practice real-life scenarios (e.g., ordering at a restaurant, starting a conversation, or managing conflict) in a safe, supportive environment.
- Community Integration: Accompany clients to various community settings (college campuses, parks, stores, and local events) to provide "real-world" coaching and constructive feedback during live social interactions.
- Life Skills Instruction: Teach essential daily living skills, including cooking classes, budgeting, and navigating how to schedule personal appointments.
- Appointment Assistance: Transport clients to scheduled appointments, walk in with them, stay for the duration, and take detailed notes to share with families.
- Health & Fitness: Accompany and work out alongside clients at the gym, teaching proper workout techniques and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- Emotional Regulation: Instruct clients on self-calming strategies, help them identify emotional triggers, and practice assertiveness to manage stress or sensory overload.
- Administrative & Other Duties: Maintain flexibility to fulfill other duties as requested to best support the client's evolving needs.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience in home/community care, caregiving, direct support (DSP), or working with individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism.
- Behavioral Health Knowledge: Familiarity with behavioral health principles and behavior management techniques.
- Transportation (Strictly Required): * Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Must have a reliable personal vehicle.
- Must provide proof of valid car insurance.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, high emotional intelligence, patience, and the ability to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Background: Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
- Flexibility: Must be adaptable to changing daily schedules and client needs.
Position Details & Schedule
- Job Type: Part-time, Contract
- Pay: From $20.00 per hour
- Work Location: On the road / In person (Fresno, CA and surrounding areas)
- Schedule Requirements:
- Must be available for a 6:00 AM start time.
- Monday to Friday, with "on-call" availability.
- Must be able to work 2 weekends per month (as needed).
