POSITION: CHILDCARE TEACHERS AIDE (FULL TIME AND PART TIME)
Akahiao Childcare is seeking a teacher’s aide for our 2-3 year old keiki for the 2026/27 school year. The childcare is located in North Kona at Huehue Ranch.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Preschool CDA credential or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred but not required.
- At least 6 months experience working with children under the age of 5 is preferred but not required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- $17-$23/hr. (rate negotiable depending on education and/or experience)
JOB SUMMARY:
We are searching for a caring, fun, and responsible caregiver for our 2-3 year old keiki at our outdoor education based childcare. We are located on a picturesque ranch that encompasses an organic garden, tall tree forest and open grassland that can all be used as learning spaces. ‘Akahiao keiki program is focused on developing the keiki’s sense of wonder & creativity, self-confidence and safety in being/expressing one’s self, while cultivating a strong connection to nature and the people around them.
The Teacherʻs Aide will help the lead teachers facilitate activities that ensure experiential projects, creativity, and active participation. Our main curriculum focus will be on gratitude to the natural world, which will include outdoor play, giving back practice and simply thanking natural elements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Work with the teaching team in all activities, including but not limited to:
- Housekeeping
- Diapering
- Toilet training
- Meal service
- Record keeping
- Aide in facilitating daily small-group activities for an assigned group of children
- Assume responsibility of supervision for a classroom at any given time
- Provide coverage for breaks for other staff members
- Supervise daily lunch, outdoor activities, field trips and walks/hikes
- Uploading of photos (to Director approved app/online platform) that demonstrate learning schemas and learning activities
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically able to walk/hike uneven terrain anywhere from 1-2 miles per day
- Demonstrates an attitude of gratitude
- Willingness and ability to learn and implement a nature-based curriculum
- Have a positive attitude, high level of integrity, honesty and strong work ethic
- Willingness to adopt & utilize language specific to our program needs
- Sensitive to individual and group needs of children
- A joyful and compassionate approach to each child
- Ability to accept changes in schedules, environment, etc...
- Ability to take and assimilate direction and constructive criticism from Lead teacher and Director
PART TIME (19 hours or less) SCHEDULE & START DATE
Mon - Thurs: 8:30AM - 1:00 PM
Start date: July 27th, 2026 (Keiki start date August 4th)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
