REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college a plus. Must hold & maintain a Group Exercise/Fitness Instructor certification through a nationally recognized organization (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, etc.) and/or a Yoga specific 200 hr training Personal leadership and commitment to Health and Wellness is important. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Must be 18 years of age and having a valid driver’s license is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking an enthusiastic individual to lead safe and effective group exercise classes to a diverse population. Safety is the #1 priority. The Yoga Instructor is responsible for providing a balanced yoga practice for participants of all levels and abilities, providing progressions and regressions when necessary, and educating patrons on appropriate breathing principles and safe transitioning techniques. Provide excellent member service, greet and acknowledge all members to encourage wellness participation. Develop, implement, and instruct yoga sessions for members at an appropriate level and in the appropriate modality based on member wants, needs, and ability. Help maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment in exercise studios. Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities. Understand the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of wellness coaches. Attend continuing education and mandatory trainings. Other duties as needed within the position’s scope.
