An engineering construction inspector acts as the on-site liason between project owners, engineers, and contractors. They monitor active construction sites to ensure that materials, workmanship, and structural dimensions strictly comply with approved blueprints, safety codes, and government regulations. This position inspects construction projects and as-builts for compliance with established standards. This position reviews development plans and proposals including technical information reports. Performs routine engineering related work for environmental, water, sewer, street, and drainage and other community infrastructure, development projects and programs. This position assists engineers in the application of principles, methods and techniques of civil engineering technology.
Work is performed both in an office setting and out in the field, with duties primarily being performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching on various types of terrain and on construction sites. Field work may be in hazardous work areas such as street surfaces, rights-of-way, medians, and in ditches. The work may involve strenuous physical labor, visual acuity, physical dexterity, and mechanical aptitude. Position may be required to work outside of standard business hours on occasion.
