Job Summary: F+F Mechanical Enterprises Inc. is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Construction Safety Manager to join our team. The Construction Safety Manager will assist in implementing our corporate safety program and fostering a culture where every worker returns home safely each day. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing safety professional to grow their skills on active construction projects.
Job Status: Nonexempt
Reporting Structure: The Safety Manager is supervised by and reports to the Safety Director.
Physical Factors: This position is performed both in an office environment and on active construction sites and requires the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Must be able to navigate a construction site, which may include walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders and stairs, and working at heights. Exposure to various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) is expected. Regular use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and sturdy over the ankle work boots, is required.
Working Conditions: The Safety Manager typically works eight hours days between 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday in the Trumbull office or North Haven Office, and various job sites in CT. Specific hours are determined on a project basis. Occasional overtime may be required to meet the needs of the project.
Essential Functions/Competencies:
● Hazard Identification & Mitigation: Perform and document site safety inspections to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues. Document all findings and track corrective actions to ensure timely closure.
● JHA and MOP development: Collaborate with project managers and crew leaders to identify high-risk tasks and activities, understanding associated hazards and procedural steps. Develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for these tasks and assist in drafting Method of Procedures (MOPs).
● Stop-Work Authority: Exercise stop-work authority when imminent danger or hazardous conditions are identified, ensuring immediate corrective actions are implemented before work resumes.
● Worker Onboarding: Conduct safety orientations for all new employees, ensuring a clear understanding of site-specific safety policies and emergency procedures.
● Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure alignment with safety policies, procedures, and onsite work.
● Field Monitoring: Routinely attend and monitor morning briefings and toolbox talks to ensure relevance, quality, and worker engagement.
● Incident Investigation: Assist in the investigation of all incidents, accidents, and near-misses. Help review, draft, and distribute detailed investigation reports to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
● Training and Development: Monitor and verify that all workers have the appropriate and up-to-date safety training for their assigned tasks. Assist in coordinating and delivering training as needed.
● Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining all safety-related documentation, including inspection logs, training records, incident reports, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
● Working knowledge of federal construction safety regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1926.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Qualifications:
● Experience: 1-6 years of experience in a construction safety role.
● Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field, is preferred. Equivalent field experience will be considered.
● Certifications:
○ OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification is required.
○ First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required.
