EMT/DRIVER - Per Diem
EMS
Salary: $23 Hourly After Training
Information regarding East Hampton Ambulance:
- 911 Emergency Response only, no transfers
- Brand new equipment. 2022 Ford F-550 AEV ambulance, 2017 and 2012 Ford F-450 Lifeline Ambulances / LUCAS CPR devices, power stretchers, powerload, etc
- Fully furnished building: living room, kitchen, bedrooms, internet, cable, generator
- Wide variety of medical calls with a call volume of approx. 1300 calls a year (average of 3-4 a day)
- 8 Hour Shift blocks, flexible arrangements can be made with other staff. 24/7 Coverage.

General Statement of Duties
Per Diem EMT/DRIVER is a position responsible for responding and providing emergency care to citizens of East Hampton and surrounding communities when called upon. EMT will follow all policies and procedures to expected industry standards. EMT will act professional and polite when interacting with any member of the community. EMT is expected to work a schedule involving days, evenings, overnights, holidays and weekends.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Actively participates in the safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients, using basic life support (BLS) scope of practice
2. Administers medical treatment in a caring and compassionate manner, according to Middlesex,
CT State & East Hampton EMS policies, procedures and established standards of care, thus promoting positive public relations for the Town, our organization and the EMS profession
3. Demonstrates flexibility, as patient needs change and the ability to communicate the need for additional assistance when necessary
4. Seeks direction from other healthcare team members when necessary in order to clarify a patient's need or condition
5. Is aware of scope of practice as EMT and functions within this scope, based on regional and state protocols
6. Provides effective team leadership on calls and during shift
7. Assumes roles of patient advocate & provides for the patient/family needs for psychological, emotional or spiritual support in an empathetic manner
8. Maintains confidentiality of all patients, employees, corporate records, and patient records in accordance with current HIPAA guidelines
9. Safely operates and assists in the maintenance of East Hampton Ambulance vehicles as required
10. Performs daily vehicle maintenance check and cleans both the inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis, including replenishing medical equipment and supplies as needed
11. Monitors and properly operates all communications equipment to ensure efficient, constant, and appropriate contact with the communications department
12. Responds to all requests for service in an optimal manner and the priority of response when directed by the dispatcher
13. Produces accurate, legible, and complete documentation on all calls in per electronic patient care record (ePCR) policy.
14. Is receptive to East Hampton Ambulance QA/QI and Middlesex Hospital Medical Control feedback regarding treatment of patients and follows their judgment
15. Is able to communicate all pertinent patient information to medical personnel directly involved with patient care in compliance with local protocols and in accordance with Middlesex Hospital,
CT State and HIPAA Guidelines
16. Works with colleagues and other agencies in a spirit of teamwork, professionalism and goal attainment
17. Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers and co-workers, & assists in the orientation of new employees and ongoing field training activities
18. Demonstrates personal commitment to the East Hampton Ambulance core values through active involvement in clinical care, community outreach and the performance improvement (QA/QI) process
19. Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
20. Participate in community programs to maintain East Hampton Ambulance Association’s image and establish strong community relations
21. Attends available workshops and seminars to enhance clinical skills, mandatory in service education & staff meetings
22. Carries out other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
1. Work is delivered in all conditions including severe and extreme weather
2. Work involves exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, blood or tissue
3. Must be able to successfully operate all of East Hampton Ambulance Association’s equipment when tasked
4. Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times
5. Must be able to lift, drag, hoist, and carry different types of equipment and other objects in accordance with expected industry accepted EMT standards
6. Available to work daytime, evenings, overnights, holidays, and/or weekends

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill & Ability
1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Outlook, and Excel).
2. Working knowledge of computers and office equipment.
3. Possess clinical literacy.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
5. Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
6. Demonstrate experience in interacting collaboratively with multiple agencies and/or authorities.
7. Must possess excellent problem solving skills.
8. General familiarity with Federal and State laws and regulation pertaining to OEMS.
9. Experience responding to emergency calls
Experience & Training
- High School Diploma or GED
- CT State Certified EMT
- Driver’s license in good standing
- Driving record in compliance with East Hampton Ambulance Vehicle & Driving Policy
- Current AHA CPR certification
- NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700 (May obtain within 30 days)
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with a local EMS organization in Middlesex Hospital regions
- Experience as an EMS professional
- Knowledge of the geographical layout of East Hampton and surrounding communities
Miscellaneous Information
- All applicants may be required to complete the following: physical exam, interview, drug screening, and criminal background investigation. A valid driver’s license may be required.
- Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state, and federal criminal history check and sex offender registry check.
- Not every applicant will receive an interview and only those selected for an interview will be notified.
- Certifications must be maintained for continued employment.
