About Wright Electric
Wright Electric builds power systems behind the future of aerospace and defense — from 30 kW expeditionary generators to multi-megawatt airborne propulsion. Our work spans electric motors, next-generation batteries, power electronics, and complete power systems like DenseGen and Dynamo, all engineered for a step-change in power and energy density. Since 2016, we've earned the trust of some of the most demanding customers in the world, including AFSOC, the USMC, PACAF, USTRANSCOM, NASA, ARPA-E, the FAA, and U.S. Air Force programs. It's genuinely cutting-edge work.
We also move fast. Wright is an all-hands, high-ownership environment where the pace is quick and the problems are hard. The people who thrive here are the ones who dig in and drive their work to the finish. At the same time, we know sustained great work depends on rest: we respect our team's personal time and protect the boundaries that keep people sharp, healthy, and here for the long haul.
The Role
Wright Electric is hiring a Systems Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of the power converters on Wright’s APEX program at the assembly level. You will be the single point of accountability for these assemblies — from requirements and documentation through BOM release, procurement, build, and test, and on through issue tracking, customer change-requests, and returns. It is a role for someone who likes to own a product, keep it organized, and drive it across every team that touches it. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role: we're looking for an engineer who will personally own and complete the work, not a manager overseeing a systems team.
The engineers who thrive here are organized, technically fluent, and comfortable coordinating across electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and quality. You'll hold the full picture of your assemblies and be the person the rest of the company relies on to know their status, their risks, and their path to production.
What You'll Own
- Assembly ownership — Take ownership of the APEX power converters at the assembly level, serving as the single point of accountability for their design, build, and performance.
- Documentation — Own and maintain all documentation at the assembly level across the product lifecycle (detailed below).
- BOM, procurement & build —Be responsible for all assembly-level bill-of-materials (BOM) release, procurement, build, and tracking.
- Test —Be responsible for all assembly-level testing — defining, executing, and reporting on it.
- Issue & change tracking — Track all assembly-level open issues, customer change-requests, critical test failures, and customer returns to resolution.
- Cross-functional coordination — Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams — electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and quality — to keep the assembly moving.
Documentation Ownership
This role owns the full documentation set for the power-converter assemblies across their lifecycle, including:
Requirements & Specification
- System Requirement Document
- System Specification Document
Design & Release
- Engineering Design Document
- Engineering Release Document
Test Documentation
- Engineering Test Requirement Document
- Engineering Test Design Document
- Engineering Test Plan Document
- Engineering Tester / Fixture Design Document
- Engineering Test Report Document
Product & Customer Documentation
- Product Operator Manual
- Product Maintenance Manual
- Product Troubleshooting Guide
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of systems, electrical, or power-electronics engineering experience, including ownership of a product or assembly through its lifecycle.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience owning BOM release, procurement, and build tracking, ideally with a PLM or ERP system.
- Experience defining and executing assembly- or product-level testing, including test plans, fixtures, and reports.
- Strong technical writing skills across the full documentation lifecycle — requirements, design, test, and product manuals.
- Proven ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams and drive open issues to resolution.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
Preferred
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Direct experience with power converters or power electronics (inverters, DC-DC converters, gate drivers).
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or another government-contracting environment.
- Familiarity with configuration management, change-control processes, and requirements traceability.
- Exposure to test automation or lab instrumentation.
- Familiarity with aerospace or quality standards (e.g., AS9100, DO-254).
