Job Summary
The Aluminum Fabricator / Table Top Router Operator performs two distinct but complementary production functions within the manufacturing operation.
- Aluminum Fabricator – Primarily fabricates components from extruded aluminum stock by measuring, cutting, drilling, tapping, machining, deburring, and preparing materials to print specifications. This function does not involve product assembly.
- Table Top Router Operator – Independently operates a programmable table-top routing machine used to cut, shape, drill, engrave, and finish flat stock materials including plastic sheets, aluminum sheets, wood products, and composite sheet materials.
Core Responsibilities
A. Aluminum Fabricator (Extruded Aluminum Stock)
- Read blueprints, prints, work orders, cut lists, and dimensional drawings.
- Measure and mark extruded aluminum stock for fabrication.
- Cut aluminum material using cold saws, miter saw w/dust collector system, chop saws, and band saws.
- Drill, countersink, tap, ream, notch, and machine aluminum components, (milling machines, drill press, laithe).
- Deburr sharp edges and finish fabricated parts, (grinder, sander, deburring tools).
- Maintain dimensional tolerances and verify cut accuracy.
- Identify material types, profiles, lengths, and production priorities.
- Organize completed fabricated parts for downstream departments.
- Maintain inventory/material yield and minimize scrap.
B. Table Top Router Operator
- Set up and operate vacume hold-down system, programmable routing equipment and dust collection system.
- Load sheets and secure materials using vacuum hold-downs, clamps, or fixtures.
- Run programs for plastic, aluminum sheet, wood, and composite materials.
- Change router bits, tooling, and consumables.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters within approved limits.
- Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and cut quality.
- Remove finished parts, label, stack, and prepare for next process.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
C. Shared Responsibilities
- Follow all safety rules, PPE, guarding, and lockout/tagout requirements.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers, scales, squares, and tape measures.
- Maintain production records and job tracking documentation.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Communicate shortages, defects, machine issues, or drawing concerns.
Qualifications

Must have general knowledge of 1) shop floor work environment, 2) estimating time and materials for machine jobs, and 3) shop machines and tools, including their design uses, repair and maintenance.
Reliable attendance and ability to meet production schedules.
Education and Experience
- Experience working with pre-fab extruded aluminum structures and stock preferred.
- One year shop experience required. Mechanical aptitude.
- One year drill press, metal sawing, industrial machine experience required or highly preferred.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent job related experience required.
- Strong math skills

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands
Ability to move or transfer stock and products bodily, with hand truck or forklift. Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required. While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those regularly found in a manufacturing/shop setting. PPE required: Safety glasses, shoes, golves, dust protection, etc. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
