General Summary:
The Scanning Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining advanced structured-light scanning equipment to conduct precise dimensional analysis and quality control inspections. This role ensures the accuracy, reproducibility, and integrity of digital data, supports advanced reverse-engineering initiatives, and generates comprehensive inspection reports to ensure compliance with internal and client quality standards
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operate blue and white light structured-light scanning systems to capture high-resolution 3D data of manufactured components, assemblies, and tooling surfaces.
· Utilize specialized software applications to align and compare scanned point-cloud data against original 3D CAD master models.
· Identify, measure, and formally document any dimensional deviations, variances, or manufacturing discrepancies.
· Prepare clear, concise, and professional inspection documentation detailing measurement results, analytical findings, and quality variances for internal engineering review and customer distribution.
· Perform routine calibration, system verification, and preventative maintenance on precision scanning equipment to guarantee measurement accuracy and optimal hardware performance.
· Collaborate closely with quality engineering and manufacturing teams to communicate inspection results, facilitate the resolution of quality issues, and provide technical guidance.
· Follow established standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure all metrology tasks comply with required technical criteria.
· Identify, document, and report any product or process non-conformances through appropriate quality management system channels.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Strong technical understanding of 3D scanning principles and hands-on experience operating industrial structured-light scanners.
· Practical knowledge of both blue and white light scanning technologies.
· Experience utilizing 3D scanning and metrology software ecosystems such as SMIRT, GOM, and other industry-standard inspection applications.
· Proficiency with CAD software suites alongside the ability to accurately interpret engineering blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
· Meticulous approach to quality assurance, with a proven focus on capturing precise data points and producing highly detailed analytical reports.
· Strong analytical, analytical-thinking, and technical troubleshooting skills to diagnose scanning hardware challenges and isolate the root causes of quality issues.
Education & Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent secondary education credential.
· Professional certification or technical degree in metrology, mechanical design, engineering technology, or a closely related field preferred.
· 2 + years of progressive experience operating industrial laser or optical metrology equipment.
· Prior technical experience working within a precision manufacturing or tool-and-die environment.
· Familiarity with formal Quality Management Systems (QMS) and industrial compliance standards.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, hourly position requiring a flexible commitment of 40 to 56 hours per week based on facility production demands. The standard core work week is Monday through Friday, with mandatory weekend shifts scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays dictated by shop workloads and project deadlines.
Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
