Position Title: Drop and Bury Technician
Classification: Non-Exempt
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time, irregular working hours Monday through Friday. Weekends may be required based on customers need.

Job Summary: The Drop Bury Technician duties include the installation and maintenance of low-voltage broadband fiber optic cables, or coaxial cables buried underground in residential, businesses and commercial job sites.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for operating GTS utility locater and place paint lines, or place flags of utility lines including electrical, fiber optic, gas, water, and sewer lines to insure safe trenching activities.
- Should have the ability to “read the job layout” including valves and meter housings that may or may not have been located.
- Experience in operating trenching equipment, duct work laying, cable pulling, and completing driveway and sidewalk boring.
· Maintain bore logs
· Read blueprints organization of materials and other resources as necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include the use of basic hand tools
· Restore customer lawns, sidewalks, landscaping back to original conditions to maintain effective working relationships with those affected.
· All other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience as a Utility Locator
- Ability to drill/bore in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities.
- Ability to operate trenching equipment or use hand tool to trench or bore cable lines.
- Ability to listen to and implement directions
- Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of all equipment
- Knowledge of Underground Construction practices
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of reading and interpreting Fiber maps and/or CATV design prints
Technical Skills:
- Ability to identify and use the tools required for maintaining and servicing machinery, as well as the ability to diagnose and/or relay any problems to a certified repair technician
- Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans
- Ability to research land and plat information and communicate design prints
- Ability to accurately sketch and record field notes and computations field as-builts
- Ability to perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required

- Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions

- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
- Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions. Class A CDL license is preferred.
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 80 pounds including body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
- Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and in the near proximity to vehicular traffic
- May be required to work long and unpredictable hours

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to varying temperatures as work is primarily outside.
Noise levels are moderate to heavy.
Work in different types of terrain including water, sand, and dirt.
Varying degrees of light as work may begin early morning and continue in the evenings and overnight.
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to carry 60-70 1bs, to include an extension ladder.
Must be able to work at 28 feet or higher.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb and lift throughout work shift.
TRAVEL
Traveling from home with multiple overnight stays is required with this position.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
