KJS Transport is hiring a diesel mechanic for our Romulus, MI shop, supporting a new-model fleet of Freightliner Cascadias with Detroit DD15 power and Volvo tractors. We run dedicated freight lanes, which means steady, predictable shop work year-round on equipment new enough to be worth working on.
What You'll Work On
- Preventive maintenance services (A/B/C PMs) on Freightliner and Volvo tractors
- Engine, aftertreatment (DPF/DEF/SCR), electrical, brake, suspension, and driveline diagnostics and repair
- DOT annual inspections and FMCSA compliance work
- Diagnostics using Detroit DiagnosticLink and Volvo Premium Tech Tool (PTT)
- Opening, documenting, and closing work orders in our fleet maintenance software
Requirements
- 2+ years of heavy-duty diesel experience (Class 8 tractors)
- Hands-on experience with Freightliner/Detroit and/or Volvo platforms
- Own set of hand tools
- Valid driver's license — CDL-A a plus for test drives and yard moves
- Able to perform DOT inspections, or willing to be qualified to FMCSA standards
- Strong safety-first mindset
Nice to Have
- Previous experience with DataDis MIR-RT fleet maintenance software — a strong plus, and we'll train the right candidate
- Detroit or Volvo OEM training, or ASE T-series certifications
- EPA 609 A/C certification
- Welding and fabrication skills

- $25–$45 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and skill set — top of range for senior techs with OEM training and inspection quals
