About Lavender Bakery
Lavender Bakery is a European-style bakery and café founded in Berkeley in 2018 by two sister bakeries — La Patisserie and Sugar Butter Flour — on Solano Avenue. We're known for quality desserts, cakes, pastries, cupcakes, and custom cakes. Our second location on San Pablo Ave focuses on artisan bread and Four Barrel Coffee. Everything we serve is made from scratch.
About this role (Solano — our main store)
Our Solano store is fast-paced and order-driven — most cake, custom-cake, and large-order requests come through here. You'll take orders at the counter, fulfill online orders from multiple channels, answer phone inquiries, refill cases throughout the shift, make coffee drinks (lower volume than San Pablo), and open or close the store as scheduled. We're hiring at the Experienced (L2) level — someone confident on the floor who multitasks well, communicates clearly, stays proactive, and uses slow times to prep for the next rush.
What you'll do
- Take counter orders (in-person, including custom-cake inquiries)
- Fulfill online orders from Square + third-party platforms
- Answer phones for orders and customer support
- Refill display cases (cakes, desserts, pastries) throughout the shift
- Make coffee and espresso drinks as needed
- Open and/or close the store as scheduled
- Wash dishes related to Sales (except scheduled dishwasher days)
Hard requirements (please don't apply if you don't meet these)
- Minimum 3 months café, bakery, or coffee shop experience
- California Food Handler Card — already have it, or willing to obtain before training ends
- Available evenings AND weekends
- Available for 60%+ of major holidays
- Plan to stay at least 1 year
Nice to have
- Reference from your last café/bakery job
- Latte art
- Cake writing / decorating
- Bilingual (Spanish or French)
- Specialty coffee program experience
Pay & benefits
- $20.00 – $22.00 / hr depending on experience

What you won't be doing here
Toast prep, indoor seating service — that's the San Pablo store.
What we won't tolerate
Not following food-safety or customer-experience policies, and bad teamwork — that's the door.
