Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper to join our dynamic finance team. In this vital role, you will manage the day-to-day financial record-keeping processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Your expertise will help maintain the integrity of our financial data, support budgeting efforts, and facilitate smooth financial operations across various departments. We are looking to hire someone on a PART TIME basis while training and eventually transition into a FULL TIME 40-hour work week.
Responsibilities
- Record and reconcile all financial transactions using accounting software such as the Great Plains Accounting Software or similar systems.
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring proper debits and credits in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify accuracy of financial data.
- Process payroll accurately and efficiently, including tax filings and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Maintain the general ledger by performing account analysis, account reconciliation, and ledger updates.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, statements, and supporting documentation for audits or management review.
- Support governmental accounting requirements and non-profit accounting procedures when applicable.
- Utilize spreadsheets for data analysis, budgeting support, and financial reporting tasks.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP and governmental regulations where applicable.
Skills
- Proven experience with bookkeeping, accounting systems (GREAT PLAINS), and financial software.
- Strong understanding of accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, debits & credits.
- Excellent proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) for data analysis and report writing.
- Familiarity with payroll processing, account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and account analysis.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and non-profit accounting practices is a plus.
- Ability to perform 10-key typing accurately for data entry tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accurate record keeping.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and external auditors.
