Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center and is responsible for advancing its mission through strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and community engagement. This role oversees all aspects of the organization’s operations, ensuring the Civic Center and Ice Arena, buildings and grounds remain a sustainable, accessible, and vibrant community resource.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to define and implement the organization’s strategic vision and long-term goals
- Provide transparent and consistent reporting on organizational performance, finances, and impact
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing nonprofit organizations
- Facilitate Board of Director Meetings, maintain calendar needs, develop agenda items with Board President, distribute meeting minutes provided by Board Secretary
Operational Oversight
- Oversee all facility operations, including the ice arena, event spaces, and community programming areas, equipment, building and grounds
- Ensure a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for all users
- Establish and monitor operational policies, procedures, and performance standards
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget and long-term financial plans
- Oversee all revenue streams including ice rentals, events, sponsorships, and concessions
- Maintain strong financial controls, maintain payment schedules and ensure accurate reporting and accountability
Fundraising & Development
- Lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy including grants, corporate sponsorships, individual giving, and special events
- Cultivate relationships with donors, community leaders, and regional partners
- Identify new funding opportunities to support capital improvements and program expansion
Community Engagement & Programming
- Serve as the primary ambassador for the Civic Center within the community
- Foster partnerships with schools, youth organizations, athletic programs, and local businesses
- Support the development of inclusive recreational, educational, and cultural programming
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of staff and volunteers
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven organizational culture
- Ensure effective staffing for operations, programs, and events
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Sports/Recreation Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum of 5–7 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, recreation facility, or community-based organization
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor development
- Strong financial management and budgeting expertise
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
