The purpose of the maintenance mechanic position in Madisonville, Kentucky is to maintain the operating efficiency of mill equipment, repair and troubleshoot system and process upsets.
- Key Accountabilities/Essential Functions:
- Adheres to all company’s safety policies, OSHA regulations, ISO14000, ISO9001:2000 standards and policies;
- Maintain and measure equipment performance to specification;
- Troubleshoot and implement corrective actions;
- Participates in Safety, Quality and Production meetings with peers when required;
- Must be able to report to the job, on time, as scheduled
- Must be willing to work any shift as needed, and follow the “on-call” rotation process
- Follow safe work practices and assist in the development of safe practices
- Maintain and measure equipment performance.
- Utilize trade skills such as rigging, welding, mechanical rebuilding, installation of process equipment and the ability to follow repair instructions.
- Rebuild or install mechanical components such as pumps and gearboxes.
- Troubleshoot and implement corrective actions.
- Read and analyze task or project assignments in order to design, and implement necessary repairs or replacements.
- Manage time and complete work assignments, work orders, and maintenance rounds
- Ability to learn new equipment, processes, and skills.
- Have a good understanding of bearing, pump, motor, and gearbox operation
- Perform mechanical tasks such as motor replacement, bearing installation, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs, etc;
- Willingness to learn new skills both mechanical & electrical;
- Actively participates in continuous improvement programs;
- Actively participates in housekeeping programs, inventory counts and performs housekeeping for area;
- Ability to manage time and complete work assignments;
- Ability to learn new equipment, processes and skills;
- Participate, cooperate and engage during cross training of personnel for efficiency optimization and personal multi-skills development within the department and the plant;
- Safely drive and operate lifting equipment such as but not limited to forklift, fork trucks and jib cranes.
- Support and assist in special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Additional Accountabilities:
- Required to work weekends and holidays;
- Ability to be on call 24/7 to come in and work on machinery and to answer questions about machinery in the Plant;
- Must carry company cell phone if required;
- Required to work any shift and any rotation;
- Required to work off shift as needed;
- Performs additional duties as required.
- Education, Technical Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Technical degree preferred;
- Four to six years of relevant experience;
- Mathematical and mechanical aptitude;
- Exercise a high degree of self-motivation;
- Great verbal and written communication skills;
- Computer literate. Microsoft Windows/Word/Excel and Company software. Must be able demonstrate skills and knowledge.
- Physical Demands:
- The employee possesses the ability to see, hear, talk, sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle controls;
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms;
- The employee is required to bend, stoop, and lift items weighing 50 pounds;
- The employee must be able to walk and stand for an 8-12 hour shift, on a variation of hard surfaces and elevations;
- The employee must have the ability to work in a hot or cold environment, indoor and outdoors, in a manufacturing production setting, with exposure to work near moving mechanical parts;
- The employee possesses the ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis, assessments and repair work.
